Job Title: Business Manager - Remote Team Leadership
Location: RemoteWere seeking an experienced Business Manager to lead and scale our remote team supporting a growing Environmental and Safety services company in California.This senior leadership role requires someone with strong finance/bookkeeping skills and proven HR and operations management experience who can build efficient systems, oversee diverse operational functions, and manage both internal teams and external consultants across areas they may not personally specialize in.About the Company:As a professional services company specializing in Environmental and Safety consulting, we focus on delivering expert solutions to our clients while maintaining the highest standards of service and compliance. Were building efficient systems that will serve the company for years to come, and are looking to bring on an operations leader who shares our commitment to excellence and strategic growth.Key Responsibilities:Team Leadership & Development:Directly manage a team of 4-8 associates covering different aspects of business administration, accounting/HR, administrative support, sales/marketing support and business technologyProvide strategic guidance, performance management, and professional development for team members with diverse skill setsFoster a collaborative remote work culture and recruit/onboard new team members as the company scalesHuman Resources Management:Oversee HR functions including employee lifecycle management, onboarding, and offboarding processesManage payroll, benefits administration, and HR compliance with federal and state regulationsLead recruiting processes to support all departmentsDevelop and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbookHandle employee relations issues and ensure compliance with employment lawsFinancial Operations:Oversee bookkeeping and accounting operations including A/R management, billing cycles, payment processing, and financial reportingEnsure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain relationships with CPAs and external financial advisorsMonitor and optimize cash flow, budgeting processes, and annual planning processesStrategic Operations & Systems:Partner with the Director of EHS services and the sales and marketing teams to provide the data/systems support they need to get their teams work done effectivelyDesign and implement scalable back-office processes that enable our professional services, marketing and sales teams to focus on client delivery and business developmentManage with Business Operations Technologists to enhance system integrations, automation, and data managementDrive data-informed decision making through KPI development, reporting systems, and operational analyticsConsultant & Vendor Management:Manage relationships with external consultants and service providers, coordinating projects in areas outside your direct expertiseEvaluate and onboard new service providers as business needs evolveQualifications:5+ years of operations management experience, preferably managing remote or distributed teamsStrong finance/bookkeeping and HR background with hands-on experience in operations and complianceExperience managing HR functions including recruiting, payroll, and compliance and managing external consultants and vendors across multiple disciplinesCore Competencies:Systematic and methodical approach to building scalable operational processesStrong analytical thinking with ability to see the big picture while maintaining attention to critical detailsExcellent at creating structure and order from multi-faceted operational challengesResults-oriented with focus on measurable outcomes and continuous improvementTechnical Requirements:Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred), ERP systems, and CRM/marketing platforms and technologiesExperience with project management toolsUnderstanding of HR compliance, payroll systems, and employee lifecycle management
