About the Role
The role will lead a team to ensure that a range of tax accounting, compliance and reporting activities are performed in a timely, accurate and effective manner for BHP and its subsidiaries as well as driving an inclusive culture in the team and supporting continuous process improvement. This role is accountable for driving the accuracy and consistency of our fundamentals, improves performance and productivity, builds and maintains culture and supports the safely transition of tax accounting and reporting work as required.
This role will assist the VP Finance Operations in delivering and executing simplified, standardized and increasingly automated tax processes to drive world class performance and to support benefits required by the GBS Record to Analyse Vision and the Future of Finance Strategy.
Accountabilities
Ensure that a range of Tax activities for the BHP Group and its subsidiaries are performed in a timely, accurate and effective manner and facilitate informed business decisions and meet compliance requirements.
Oversee and manage timeline of work to support global direct and indirect tax return filings and reporting requirements and delivery of month end activities, half-year and year-end briefing papers and stewardship schedules for presentation to senior management as well as tax provisioning, tax returns and reporting.
Lead the team and/or participate in annual audit processes, working closely with engaged auditors for relevant entities and processes.
Lead the team and/or participate in the annual tax stewardship review process for relevant entities and processes.
including Liaise with key stakeholders and providing assistance with various issues, queries and requests and provide insights to the Tax Leadership Teams.
Identifying continuous, sustainable improvement and simplification opportunities. Embed system of work to drive continuous improvement in process and work.
An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
Lead activities for recruiting and building team, stabilising and embedding work practices, driving the standardisation of processes across teams, providing insight based on analytics to help identify risks and generate value.
Lead activities to develop and train team members, setting KPI's development goals and ensuring they are appropriately prepared for their roles.
About You
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
Extensive experience working with a large corporate or professional environment
Experience working in an SAP-based (or similar large ERP system) system environment preferred
Working knowledge of SAP, OneSource Income Tax, or Vertex is a plus
Solid base in financial and managerial accounting gained from experience in public accounting or corporate financial reporting or controller roles
Experience in management and leading large teams (20+ FTE)
