Positions in this function monitor changes to laws and regulations to ensure compliance with State & Federal laws, regulations and mandates. Establish and implement standard policies, procedures, processes and best practices across UHG to promote compliance with applicable laws and contractual obligations. Conduct state-specific legal research and monitor changes to requirements to mitigate risks and achieve compliance. Support the collection of data for regulatory filings, coordinate and develop reports, projects, assessment tools to verify compliance. May develop compliance communications and drive problem resolution for a business.
Primary Responsibilities:
Establish, mandate and implement standard policies, procedures and best practices across the company to promote compliance with applicable laws and contractual obligations
Oversee a team that conducts state-specific legal research and monitors changes to requirements to mitigate risks and achieve compliance
Develop compliance communications and drive problem resolution
Collaborate with other compliance professionals cross-functionally to ensure regulatory and contractual requirements are met
Investigate identified compliance matters, including corrective action and mitigation
Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance of managers and/or senior level professional staff
Impact of work is most often at the operational or local business unit or market level
Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so
This role requires a unique ability to develop relationships, analyze information and influence multiple stakeholders to increase engagement and get the needed results. You will be working in a matrixed environment with multiple groups while ensuring that resources are used effectively. You will also provide leadership and be accountable for the performance of a team that conducts state-specific legal research and monitors changes to requirements to mitigate risks and achieve compliance.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; graduate degree
5+ years of experience working in a government, legal, healthcare, managed care and/or health insurance environment in a regulatory, privacy or compliance role
5+ years of experience supervising and leading a team
5+ years of experience leading and implementing a comprehensive compliance program
3+ years of experience with state, HIPPA and other federal privacy laws
3+ years of experience working with Federal or State Programs
Preferred Qualification:
Experience working with Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D and Medicaid managed plans
