Function
The Tax job family encompasses global roles accountable for the design and implementation of tax strategies, policies and the tax governance framework. It also includes the provision of tax support to Diageo's business units, delivery of projects to create shareholder value, and proactive management and mitigation of key tax risks. With the rapid digitalisation of indirect tax administration, the Tax Compliance team is increasingly dealing with real-time tax audits and other data requests from various authorities by providing timely access to accurate data. In addition to the tax compliance responsibilities, the team is heavily involved in the delivery of the Global Tax mission and Performance Promise agenda.
The APAC Tax Compliance team is led from Budapest by the Head of Global Tax Process and Governance.
This role reports into the APAC Tax Compliance Manager. It also works very closely with the local Tax Managers and the Financial Controllers and liaises with other internal & external stakeholders.
About the Role
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the markets Tax Compliance processes are undertaken accurately, efficiently (utilising automation) and on time and the surrounding internal control procedures, legislative requirements are strictly adhered to.
The role will support the implementation and ensure ongoing operation of the Global Tax processes, controls and automation tools under the new Tax Operating model for markets in scope. The role will actively support the global tax projects and advisory topics as well as will be the tax capability building for the respective regions/markets.
Leads the tax compliance processes and initiatives for the Japan market
Perform balance sheet GL reconciliations of tax assets and liabilities in the APAC markets
Ensuring that complex direct and indirect taxes and connected supplementary returns are prepared according to the global standard process and controls, local DTPs, on time and utilising automation tools where applicable
Provides the regional tax technical knowledge required for preparing the in-scope statutory direct and indirect tax returns and the related tax journal entry posting and GL reconciliation
Supervises regional Tax Compliance team for smooth compliance operation and issue resolution
Collaborates with Tax Business Partners to ensure processes and activities of the Tax Compliance Function can be excellently executed
Actively managing and coordinating tax-related document retention for your markets
To take responsibility for the day-to-day tasks required
Supporting the new controls and KPI report implementation (Tax calendar review), monitoring the implemented KPIs, supporting investigation of the root-cause or errors and working with end-to-end processes to improve KPIs
Promptly responding to market queries in respect of markets in her/his responsibility and supporting tax leaders, tax managers in non-routine questions, global projects, and during tax audits in her/his competency
Providing training and any other kinds of technical support to the Tax Compliance teams and to other departments
Prepare quality reconciliations through deep understanding of the figures supported, reported
Supports the collation, organisation and provision of information to tax authorities where relevant to ensure timely resolution of open issues
Identifies and drives process efficiencies and standardization opportunities, working in strategic partnership with the Process Governance Director/FC Governance on implementations and Tax Technology teams
Pro-actively supports internal projects to facilitate the ongoing transformation and improvement of Diageo's Global Tax function (including providing relevant information, answering ad hoc requests and suggesting alternative ways of working)
Acts as a back-up for his/her Manager in relation to technical aspects
Acts as a coach, trainer of team members both from a technical and people management perspective and supports return preparation process
Is responsible for building a close relationship with key and senior stakeholders within Global Tax, in Diageo markets, Global and Regional Supply Leaders, other functional teams of GDBS shared services in Budapest and Bangalore as well as Tax authorities, external and internal advisors.
To ensure that financial processes are undertaken accurately, efficiently, on time and that the surrounding internal control procedures are strictly adhered to in line with CARM processes
Experience required/Skills/Capabilities/Languages
University / College degree in finance / accounting / business / CPA
At least 5-7 years working experience in a multinational corporate environment with strong exposure in tax accounting and tax compliance, preferably in APAC markets
Experience in tax accounting and GL reconciliations are a must
Internal / external audit experience and/or SOX is an advantage
Experience with Shared services process activities is an advantage
Capable of working in a deadline-driven environment
Experience of working in a multi-national financial environment
Hard working personality, flexibility for adopting to change with positive attitude
Excellent communication skills and able to build strong relationships with operational staff and stakeholders
Strong risk management skills, ability to follow-up/flag potential issues
Relevant experience with SAP FI /CO COPA modules
