Canva is experiencing rapid growth in its business as it continues on its sensational and thrilling journey.
There is now the need for a Tax Advisor to assist with the ever expanding tax requirements that the group faces as we continue to gain international presence.
As a key unit within finance, the tax function prides on being able to deliver strategic value-adding support to the business, afterall, just about everything we do will touch upon tax in one way or another. In this newly created role, you will work closely with the tax team (in Manila and Sydney) to ensure that key tasks are supported. Initially, you will have an immediate impact on a number of key projects. Overtime, you will identify opportunities for improvement and drive your own initiatives to continuously add value to the business.
You will be a key point of contact for tax matters relating to Canva's Philippines operation which will cover both compliance and advisory, and will continuously be on the lookout for process improvements. Moreover, being a global business, this role provides a unique opportunity for you to be involved in and get exposure to cross-border tax issues.
About you
We're a fast-moving business so change is frequent! You are comfortable working in an environment where speed and adaptability is key and project deadlines are often short. In this regard, you will be expected to have strong time management skills and the ability to recognise and prioritise key projects.
You will be the first point of contact across projects you own and will therefore be required to deal with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You are comfortable in independently determining appropriate courses of action and are able to communicate any decisions clearly and in a timely manner. Additionally, being the subject matter expert in Philippines tax, your technical understanding of the domestic law and the application of it thereof will be well regarded.
Importantly you are a team player for we are all about "no I in Finance". You will be ready and willing to lend a hand to your colleagues for the collective good. Your values and interpersonal approach will be the metric of success for this role. Finally you are someone who's keen to learn new knowledge and dive into the world of global tax.
Your Role
Philippines focus
- Ownership of Canva Philippines' compliance obligations, including but not limited to, income tax, VAT, EWT, DST, FBT, and others.
- Identify and advise on tax implications on activities undertaken by Canva Philippines.
- Review of Canva Philippines' tax processes. Where appropriate, recommend and implement process improvements.
Global focus
- Supporting the management of Canva group's global indirect tax compliance efforts by meeting any registration/filing requirements.
- Ad-hoc advisory support to HQ (research, drafting position paper) on Canva group's global tax projects.
In addition to the specified tasks above, you will also be expected to provide ad-hoc support to other tasks as required.
We'd love it if you had...
A Bachelor's/College Degree in Finance/Accountancy or equivalent
2-4 years of tax experience in either shared service center/captive BPO and/or accounting/audit/consultancy firm or an in-house tax role
CPA or any applicable professional certification (preferred)
Working experience in supporting multiple clients/countries will be well regarded
