Job Purpose
The Rice Breeding Platform will deliver on key priorities of the Strategic Plan in the areas of breeding for favorable environments, breeding for marginal environments, host plant resistance, quantitative genetics, seed and delivery systems and germplasm evaluation.
Under the general supervision of the Quantitative Genetics and Biometrics Senior Scientist, this position will play a key role in providing statistical support and technical advice to IRRI researchers and collaborators on design and analysis of data; provide technical support in the use of the appropriate statistical software; conduct analyses for IRRI researchers whenever advanced statistical methods are required and provide training (in-house and external) on statistical procedures.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.
The health and welfare of our staff is our top priority. We are currently operating with the majority of our workforce working from home. This position will be remote for the foreseeable future and will require a stable internet connection.
Roles and Responsibilities
Ensure that experiments led by IRRI especially rice breeding experiments are designed, conducted and analyzed properly according to their objectives by providing guidance to researchers and breeders in the form of face to face consultation meetings particularly regarding artificial intelligence modeling
Enhance the statistical knowledge and skills of researchers primarily by serving as a resource person in training courses, developing training materials, and providing informal on-the-job training experiences to IRRI staff and NARES partners particularly regarding artificial intelligence modeling
Provide statistical support for research and breeding projects particularly regarding artificial intelligence modeling
Develop applications to help breeders attain their objectives
Serve as resource person in trainings and workshops (in-house and external) involving statistics topics artificial intelligence modeling
Facilitate training activities of the cluster
Provide statistical advice on artificial intelligence modeling for research and breeding projects to IRRI researchers and collaborators
Develop training materials for training courses and workshops
Contribute to designing and analyzing experiments
Contribute to writing sections of reports and scientific articles that pertains to statistical design and analysis
Develop and maintain applications related to artificial intelligence modeling
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Statistics with a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in conducting training
Master's degree in Statistics with a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in statistical programming and training

Able to acquire and learn new statistical methods and techniques through self-study
