Job Description The purpose of this position is to: . Support the department in strengthening the fire protection capabilities of the team by mentoring local members working towards being a seasoned fire protection engineer. . Provide direction and guidance upon and resolution of complex Fire Protection issues during Conceptual, FEED and Detailed Engineering stages of Projects, for both Greenfield and Brownfield Scopes. . Alignment of Fire Protection activities with other disciplines and with Client and Fluor objectives. . Provide guidance on and interpretation of International Codes and Standards, especially NFPA, Industry Best Practices, Company HSE practices and goals and objectives of the Design HSE discipline. Primary Job Duties/Functions are as follows: . Mentor individuals and conduct training sessions for basic and intermediate levels of HSE design personnel. . Produce deliverables as listed below, but not limited to: o Definition of applicable standards/regulations for the project o Fire Detection and Protection Philosophy (including of Fire and Gas philosophy/concept) o Specifications for Active Fire Protection Systems including Fixed Fire Water Systems, Mobile and Portable Fire Fighting Systems, Clean Agent systems (Inergen, FM200 etc.) and Helideck Arrangements (DIFFS, CAP 437 etc.) o Specifications for Passive Fire Protection Systems, including coatings, claddings, partitions and enclosures o Development and verification of Performance Standards for Active and Passive Fire Protection Systems . Check basic and intermediate level HSE personnel deliverables such as: o Fire and Gas concept sketches/layout/ philosophies o Fire Water Demand Calculation o Fire Protection Drawings/ Specifications/ Philosophies o Passive Fire Protection Layout o Conceptual Fire Water Layout o Fire Protection equipment Layout o Deluge detailed arrangement drawings o Fire Water PFD/ P&IDs (including Fire Water pump and Fire Water tank P&IDs/PFDs) o Fire Zone Layout o Other protective systems drawings required per project o Prepare Fire water hydraulic calculations using PIPEnet . Knowledgeable in CAD Tools such as Autocad and Microstation . Implement Inherently Safer Concepts in the design . Participate in formal design reviews such as ISD, Layout, P&ID and Model reviews . Implement Management of Change in Design Phase . Lead Fire Protection activities for a multi-area/unit, large scale project . Assist recruitment and training . Lead HSE discipline audits . Execute a distributed execution project . Participate in external Technical Society meetings . Prepare HSE labor estimate for large project . Successful execution of assigned project within budget, schedule and quality requirements . Conduct performance appraisals and development plans for direct reports in department or on project Basic Job Requirements . Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent . Minimum of at least 15 years of relevant experience of Fire Protection Design/Engineering . Site experience such as Construction or commissioning support of FW/FP systems . Successful completion of major projects Preferred Qualifications . Accredited Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Science required for design responsibilities . Industry certification such as NFPA or professional engineer or similar is an advantage . Experience in Building Fire Protection and Fire Alarm System Engineering and Design is an advantage . Knowledge in Fire Water Network Surge Analysis is an advantage . Skills demonstrating the capability to lead implementation of Fire Protection scope on a medium to large project with a Total Installed Cost of over $1 billion . Demonstrated high level of interpretive thinking and mature judgment . High critical thinking/reasoning ability . Effective communication skills . Strong presentation skills including public speaking . Strong organizational and leadership skills . Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner .
