Job Purpose
Under supervision of the Senior Scientist, the incumbent will 1) contribute to training on Bioinformatics and Genomics analyses for capacity development; 2) assist in maintaining bio-database/web applications in compliance with standards; 3) utilize bioinformatics and related software tools on diverse computing platforms; and 4) liaise and coordinate with IRRI Research groups (and collaborators) for analyses of datasets.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.
The health and welfare of our staff is our top priority. We are currently operating with the majority of our workforce working from home. This position will be remote for the foreseeable future and will require a stable internet connection.
Roles and Responsibilities
Contribute to training on Bioinformatics and Genomics analyses for capacity development
Assist in maintaining bio-database web applications in compliance with open standards; i.e. FAIR standards
Utilize bioinformatics and related software tools on diverse computing platforms and develop workflows for data analyses
Liaise and coordinate with IRRI & One CG Research groups (and collaborators) for analyses of datasets
Work with training teams for the delivery of training courses on bioinformatics and genomics data analyses and serve as a resource speaker
Curates genomic/phenomic data that adheres to standards for FAIR compliance (e.g. proper meta data and use of ontologies and CVs) for IRRI bioinformatic databases and webtools and documents process
Performs bioinformatics and genomics data analyses and develops documented workflows/workbooks to accomplish these
Provide research support by liasing with other IRRI and One CG research groups (and collaborators)
Assist in the effective development, implementation, coordination, and successful delivery of training courses on bioinformatics and genomics for capacity development
New datasets from unit, IRRI, OneCG, and partner activities curated using FAIR standards and made accessible to the public through our databases and webtools
Prepare and submit research outputs to the Sr. Scientist and collaborators in a timely manner
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, and/or Bioinformatics with 4 years of relevant work experience
Skills Required
Mandatory
Has proven technical proficiency in conducting bioinformatics and genomics data analyses
Has good oral and written communication skills
Has good presentation skills
Is able to work independently
Preferred
Has experience in training activities
Has some experience supervising/overseeing the work of staff
