Job Description
- Monitor and report FASB activities to identify changes in existing guidance that will have an impact on GM's financial statements.
- Participate in FASB outreach, industry groups, and Big 4 roundtable activities; facilitate process for correspondence with the FASB through Comment Letter submission.
- Research, interpret, and document all new accounting standards and how each applies to GM as well as comply with external 10-Q/10-K reporting requirements.
- Participate in M&A and other business development activities and identifying accounting issues with a global viewpoint and a focus on risk.
- Develop or coordinate transaction impact assessments from a financial documents standpoint.
Additional Job Description
Responsible for monitoring, guiding, leading, and developing a team of accounting and finance professionals who handle day-to-day finance & intercompany accounting activities. Also oversees the migration of Intercompany activities from various organizations (business units, other GBS sites, etc.)
Responsible for managing the execution of:
Monthly closing and reporting as per US GAAP
Account reconciliations
Quarterly/Annual closing as per US GAAP
Serves as principal contact of Business Units on anything Intercompany. This individual will be responsible to represent GM GBS Intercompany during meetings and should be able to accurately articulate issues, risks, and the position of the Intercompany group (both from the perspective of customers, the internal Intercompany team, and our 3rd party provider Conduent).
Reviews work product of Analyst (All levels) including journal entries, finance schedules, account reconciliations and other submissions (i.e. reports).
Creates and updates Capacity Plan to enable fair distribution of work and to assess level of staffing
Communicates and reviews Capacity Plan with Manager. Recommends optimal solutions with regards to insights on staffing.
Drives compliance of GM Corporate policies and external regulatory requirements
Identifies and executes appropriate internal controls, SOX compliance and financial procedures
Interacts and supports internal/external related parties (impacted Business Units, Global Controller's Team, Global Finance Teams, Auditors, etc.)
Proactively and timely answer global intercompany queries, provides finance, business and technical support and be a partner to all stakeholders
Has strong control focus - Brings any issues (accounting or control related) forward immediately; works to quickly find solutions to issues at hand
Evaluates current accounting practices / policies and drive continuous improvement
Strong focus on leading process improvements (including LEAN/Six Sigma) to drive quality accounting and compliance
Able to handle special projects (often of a Global/Regional nature)
Technical Knowledge Requirements:
Exceptional understanding of US GAAP, IFRS, and SOX /Internal Control Requirements - additionally, continue to attend trainings on these topics to remain adequately informed and knowledgeable.
Advanced knowledge and experience in Intercompany or Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processes.
Some knowledge in Inventory Accounting is a plus.
Systems aptitude is a requirement for this position. Knowledge of various GM Intercompany systems (IAR and IAS) and various SAP instances is expected for the assigned position (Employee must be willing to continuously learn the GM systems landscape and functionality).

Working hours would be 3pm to 12mn on non-month end close days and 9pm to 6am on month-end close days.
