Your team responsibilities
MSCI ESG Research, part of MSCI Inc., is seeking to expand its Custom ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Research analyst team.
Custom ESG research services are provided to clients who need services that fall outside MSCI ESG Research's off-the-shelf ESG products. This position involves, among other responsibilities, managing research projects focused on a wide variety of environmental, social, and governance factors and areas of interest to asset managers, asset owners, investment consultants, and other clients with specialized ESG requirements. The Senior Associate also works with MSCI's Account Management and Sales teams to support current clients and respond to prospects, and coordinate with the ESG product team to create new ESG products as well as strategize product releases. Urgent client requests are common.

Your key responsibilities
Strategically manage assigned projects to ensure high quality results delivered in advance of deadlines. This includes training and managing the work of contractors on some assigned projects and performing quality assurance procedures to validate data accuracy
Coordinate with ESG Product and Sales to map out the strategic releases of new custom products, as well as develop new ESG products based on client feedback
Conduct customized environmental, social, and governance (ESG) research on companies
Collaborate with client service representatives to respond to client inquiries in an efficient and timely manner. Support internal teams in maintaining retention of current clients and responding to prospective clients. This includes responding via email and speaking directly to clients
Liaise with IT staff to ensure accurate setup and presentation of data to clients in proprietary databases
Support other team members on larger projects
Create and document efficient research procedures for use in new projects
Improve current research and project management procedures to maximize efficiency
Your skills and experience that will help you excel
At least seven years of ESG research experience, or financial services experience that includes exposure to ESG investment products, or relevant related experience
Background in research and data analysis.
A demonstrated knowledge of, and interest in ESG
Strong command of spoken and written business English; clear and concise communication skills are critical.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people in different functional areas and across time zones is required. Ability and willingness to occasionally attend meetings outside of typical local business hours is required. Experience working on a global, multi-cultural team is preferred.
Must be proficient in computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel & Word; ability to process large volumes of data in Excel and knowledge of database functionalities are strongly preferred. Data Science background, as well as proficiency in Tableau, Power BI, Python and SQL are a plus.
Ability to grasp new concepts and master new skills quickly
Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
Self-motivate, solutions-focused, innovative team player with the ability to work in unstructured environments, with the ability to make and defend sound and consistent judgments based on limited or opaque qualitative information.
Familiarity with the asset management industry, as well as corporate annual reports, proxy statements, and sustainability reports.
Project management experience is preferred.
Client-facing experience is preferred.
Client confidentiality dictates a need for discretion and high personal ethical standards.
Minimum of Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree is preferred.
