Role Responsibilities
The Senior Data Consultant is responsible for:
The design, development and improvement of data pipelines for cloud and on-premise data environments.
Developing, delivering, and coordinating high-quality data warehouse and business intelligence solutions through consulting project activities.
Evaluating our customers' business needs and providing strategic planning guidance relating to their data warehouse and business intelligence systems and data analytic directions.
Being accountable for defined assignments/projects often involving immediate action or short-term planning of human and other resources.
Liaising with customers during deployment and testing of developed data warehouse and business intelligence solutions or products.
Recognizing and promptly advising management of potential problems.
Leading technical problem identification, system architecture definition, hardware/software specification and/or design, implementation, testing, client training, and solution deployment.
Working alongside Practice Leads providing expert advice and scope across database infrastructure and data modelling requirements (star schema, relational, Snowflake schema, etc.).
Some project management activities include interaction with managers from Datacom or our customers to support their cost and schedule monitoring.
Providing scope, risk, and cost estimations to the project management team.
Participate in sales and proposal presentations.
Identifying additional product and services opportunities in customer organizations.
Collaborate with and actively share knowledge & specialist skills with peers and other members of the practice and project teams.
Requirements:
Knowledge
High-level competence/knowledge in at least one cloud-based data warehouse and business intelligence toolset.
Detailed understanding of the business, organization, marketing context of data warehouse and business intelligence solutions.
Detailed understanding of current services and emerging technology directions.
Practical skills and experience across data migration, star schema, slowly changing dimensions, working with unstructured data sources, ETL & ETL processes using 2-3 different integration tools
Practical skills designing, developing, and executing data pipelines in a cloud environment.
Detailed knowledge of cloud-based modern data platform components such as Data Lake storage, Cloud Security, and Data Pipelines.
Detailed knowledge of deployment techniques such as CI/CD, Azure DevOps, GITHUB, etc.
High-level competence across AWS or Azure cloud systems, including database and security integration. Data migration experience across both on-premises and cloud database tools.
Data integration experience between on-premises and the cloud.
Advanced knowledge of industry-standard security methodologies such as AAD, SAML, SKIM, and OAuth API.
Experience
Minimum 5 years work experience in information technology, IT systems, systems design, integration, or consulting in the data warehouse and business intelligence area.
Experience building Business Intelligence solutions end-to-end, including Proof of Concept, Prototype, and final commissioning.
Performance tuning and optimization on new and/or existing data warehouse solutions.
Minimum 2 years experience with source control, DevOps, CI/CD, and proficient with modern DevOps tools and utilities.
Experience mentoring and leading internal team members and customers.
Experience configuring cloud database + security integration (eg Active AD, Certificates) Experience configuring GIT source control and CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GIT repositories.
Strong data migration experience across both on-premise and cloud database tools.
Extensive experience designing and developing data pipelines for ingesting on-premise datasets into cloud storage.
Advanced integration experience using stored configuration and parameters to automate data pipelines.
Skills
Advanced skills in on-premise and cloud-based data warehouse and business intelligence tools (or combinations of) e.g. SQL/MySQL/Progress/DBT/S3/Azure Data Factory/Azure Databricks/ Data Flows, various cloud offerings e.g. Azure/AWS/GCP/Snowflake and visualization & reporting tools e.g. Power BI/ Tableau/SSRS/SSAS/SSIS.
Fully competent in one or more related areas with strong analytical skills.
Able to contribute in a number of areas outside of specialty.
Proven self-ownership of personal training and development
Strong understanding of the agile delivery methodology.
Strong written communication skills.
Strong verbal communication skills e.g. presenting solutions and deliverables to key stakeholders.
Facilitation, elicitation, and workshop skills. Relevant certifications in on-premises and cloud technologies.
