This role is responsible for learning and applying their technical skills under coaching and supervision. Excelling at the Staff Accountant level requires development of the basic competencies that are required to perform all of the services that are provided to clients that includes the use of all of the software applications that we use in the office and the basics of client service.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
1) Teamwork
a. Works co-operatively in teams to provide quality service to clients - sharing, gaining and gathering information.
b. Establishes rapport with peer client levels and is always professional and courteous in dealing with them.
c. Contributes new ideas within the team and at team meetings.
2) Technical
a. Learns and develops technical competence by completing a degree qualification or professional accreditation.
b. Applies self diligently to learning and understanding technical skills and on the job practices and business
processes.
c. Participates in technical discussions relating to client assignments.
d. Assumes responsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervision of more experienced team
members and becomes proficient in the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary and other tax
returns prepared by the firm. This includes gaining an understanding of current tax law, including depreciation.
e. Becomes proficient in providing assistance with audits, 401 k audits, compilations, and reviews.
f. Documents work effectively.
g. Starts to become familiar with the rules, requirements, code of conduct and standards of the AICPA, and the
authoritative literature established by the FASB, IRS, FTB and PCAOB.
h. Obtains a working knowledge of firm technology and tax and accounting research techniques.
i. Assumes responsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervision of more experienced team
members.
j. Develops a method for complete self review before moving projects on to the Senior Accountant.
k. Works within budgeted time allotted on projects and keeps the Senior Accountant in the loop regarding open
items.
3) Account Management
a. Knows the importance of effective relationships between the client and the firm.
b. Acts professionally in all dealings at peer clients level.
c. Builds working relationships at peer client level.
d. Seeks to gain knowledge of client businesses.
e. Works with budget as well as tracks budget progress in a timely and organized manner.
4) Marketing & Selling
a. Develops a working knowledge of JGR's services, systems and processes and is able to apply them with support
and direction.
b. Understands the importance of selling and marketing the firm's services.
c. Undertakes research to support sales and marketing initiatives.
d. Builds a network of peers internally across disciplines.
e. Builds a network of peers externally through professional associations, university/school studies and client work.
f. Develops an understanding of the firm structure, the people, and the firm's clients.
g. Assists in proposal development and research gathering as requested.
5) Business Acumen
a. Understands performance expectations and plans, organizes and works efficiently.
b. Develops an awareness of the firm's vision and business strategies.
c. Develops an understanding of the business plan and their role in achieving it including utilization, realization, etc.
d. Develops a good basic business sense by researching market trends and business developments and understands
their relevance to clients.
e. Completes tasks within timeframes under direction and updates the Senior Accountant regarding open items
and issues regarding the budget.
f. Effectively plans and organizes own work effort.
g. Becomes familiar with and adheres to the firm's policies, procedures and performance standards.
h. Participates in office wide initiatives - recruitment, marketing etc.
6) People Development
a. Recognizes and actively seeks on the job learning to understand their role and responsibilities.
b. Participates actively in all formal learning and development opportunities.
c. Seeks regular feedback on performance from Senior Accountants.
d. Supports peers and less experienced Staff Accountants with on the job learning where appropriate.
e. Works with a Senior Accountant or Manager to set and monitor career goals.
f. Develops a depth of knowledge in tools and systems and processes (within their discipline) and their practical
application.
g. Develops a working knowledge and understanding of the full range of services.
h. Utilizes knowledge systems for learning and research purposes.
i. Demonstrates an active interest in the business world by keeping abreast of market trends and business
developments.
j. Pursues actively self-development opportunities.

Requirements:
