JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring for the optimal performance of all databases by implementing sound processes in database management in the areas of architecture, optimization, capacity management, security and controls, archiving and back up and recovery. This role will work closely with the client team of database administrators in attending to service tickets coming from various stakeholders, ensuring that tickets are completed based on standards Service Level Agreement (SLA). Likewise, the Senior Database Administrator is expected to represent the section in collaboration meetings with all the stakeholders of the organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establish the needs of users and monitor user access and security
Monitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to frontend users
Map out the conceptual design for a planned database
Consider both back-end organization of data and front-end accessibility of end users
Refine the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model
Further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements
Install and test new versions of the database management system (DBMS)
Control access permissions and privileges
Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act
Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
Control access permissions and privileges
Develop, manage and test backup and recovery plans
Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly
Work closely with Project Managers, IT Operations Team and Research and Application Development Team
Communicate regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security
Commission and install new applications and customize existing applications in order to make them fit for the purpose
Provide coaching and leadership to the database team in the pursuit of efficiency and excellence
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or any related course
At least 3-5 years of working experience as Senior Database Administration is required
Extensive experience on various database platforms like Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL, Postgre, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.
Above average collaborations skills, communication skills, problem-solving skills and adaptability to multi-task whenever the situation requires.
