We seek a motivated, self-directed finance professional with strong spoken & written English to join our team.
You will be responsible for:
Bank and credit card reconciliations
Managing AP, AR functions
Payroll and required reconciliations
Managing the recording of expenses
Managing the invoicing function which requires a review of project job costing
Conducting the end of month procedures
Liaising with the Sydney team as and when required.
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong attention to detail
Highly developed organizational skills and a methodical approach to completing work
Excellent time management skills
Ability to meet deadlines and have sight of objectives
Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and work demands
Advanced Excel, Word skills
Advanced Xero
Minimum of 5 years of Bookkeeping Experience
Workflow Max and Receipt bank use will be preferable
Experience in Australian accounting (with high-level exposure to Australian GST legislation) is a definite advantage
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
Sound understanding of contemporary Australian business practices and culture
Excellent client service skills - ability to provide a professional and responsive service
Abilities / Aptitude:

Technical (70% of time)
Assist staff with a wide range of Bookkeeping activities
Apply and develop previously acquired Bookkeeping knowledge/skills.
Complete all core tasks as listed out on Process Management Platform (PMP) process maps.
Activities included:
- Prepare Business Activity Statements from client summaries or
accounting software
- Complete all relevant checklists
- Maximise own time to complete assignments and to achieve
agreed performance goals
- Understand client needs and requirements
- Ensure senior staff are aware if any issues
o Preparation of Instalment Activity Statement's, annual GST
returns
o Prepare clear well-documented file notes and keep senior staff
up to date
o General spreadsheet and word processing
o Identify potential issues on jobs and work with senior staff to
solve these issues
o Ensure all review points are dealt with appropriately
Process Management/Administration (5% of time)
Complete all standard administration tasks and assist with the completion of additional tasks.
Activities included:
o Daily timesheet completion (recording of time spent on assigned
tasks)
o Assist with budget preparation as instructed
o Support other HLB staff as instructed
o Assist with bill preparation as instructed
o Updating PMP
Self Management (5% of time)
Maximise own time to complete assignments and to achieve agreed performance goals.
Activities included:
o Manage own workflow (e.g. list jobs in progress & due dates,
prioritise & make job list current, review timesheets & update
hours spent on each job, compare WIP to agreed fees, avoid
write-offs)
o Job clarification - upwards & downwards (e.g. clarify
task/requirements/deadlines)
o Job Control (plan assignments, determine required
information/assistance, estimate problems, monitoring
budgets & productivity targets)
o Inform/follow up senior staff/Managers/ about work progress
(e.g. ask for work review to finalise job, provide progress
updates)
Self Development (5% of time)
Strengthen and specialise technical working knowledge and contribute to build on this knowledge. Develop and apply nontechnical skills.
Activities included:
o Attend all training as required/organised by the firm
(including attendance of tax technical discussion group)
o Self educate, where a job demands skills and knowledge in
an unknown area, with assistance of the firm's resources
(e.g. regular technical updates & readings)
o Ensure adequate knowledge of relevant software
applications used within division
o Attend and contribute to team meetings
Staff Management (5% of time)
Carry out staff management tasks as directed.
Activities included:
o Routine duties (experience from previous positions):
o Assign and delegate work to staff as directed (e.g.
assess own workload, assess workload of team
members, assign or delegate tasks according to skill
level, discuss requirements/timeframe/budget)
o Task clarification (explain why and how to complete
tasks), provide guidance
o Review staff assignments as instructed (e.g. read
letters/working papers/draft accounts/tax returns & make
necessary changes, provide feedback, explain problems
& solutions)
o Budget management (monitor own/subordinates time on
jobs, communicate to Supervisor/Manager if budget
issues)
o Conduct team meetings (e.g. prepare agenda, seek
agenda points from staff)
o Review/supervise timesheet completion & staff workflow
as instructed (e.g. ensure correct usage of client, matter
& milestone, sufficient narration of timesheets etc.)
Staff Development (5% of time)
Carry out training tasks as directed and assist with general
queries.
Activities included:
o Provide on-the-job training for junior staff within their scope
of responsibility
o Participate in mentoring program and conduct informal
mentoring
o Prepare or conduct training for juniors
