Job Summary:
We are expanding our Engineering team and are looking for an
awesome Development Operations Engineer to join us!
You: An enthusiastic engineer who loves building scalable
infrastructures and solving software deployment challenges.
Your aim is knowing that Gengo infrastructure is fully monitored and
under control. You might be a developer yourself, have your own
project(s) or contributed to open-source projects.
Us: Were a Tokyo-based Internet start-up helping large and small
online services Go Global through our API and unique crowd-management platform.
We love working with internationally-minded people and most of our team have
lived in another country before. A few even speak more than 3 languages. Perhaps
because of all these languages we speak -and code in! -were a tight-knit team that
works hard and has fun.
Together: We will build and maintain an infrastructure capable of handling millions
of AI training-data tasks, worked on by tens of thousands of qualified contributors.
There will be plenty of stimulating technical challenges to build and maintain multiple
services. If you love playing with Amazon's AWS Kubernetes and Docker and get a kick out
of analyzing KPIs and data for performance bottlenecks all with the goal of making customers
happier and contributors more efficient then were going to have fun!
You will be the glue that ties an exciting platform together. And you will work with a
team focused on working efficiently. You should have a firm grasp of networking tools and
technologies and an ability to run multiple cloud deployments -including production, staging,
and sandbox. You hate it when anything goes down, but realize nothing is perfect and
understand that communicating the status of a situation will earn you respect. If this sounds

We're Tokyo based team originally founded to help large and small online services Go Global with
human translation through our API's. We've since launched new services that bring AI training data to the expanding AI ecosystem. We love working with internationally minded people and most of our team have lived in another country before; a few even speak more than 3 languages (not including code!).
Half of the team is stationed in Tokyo and the other half in Manila but our wormhole makes it seem like
were all "next door".
Responsibilities:
Work as a member of the engineering team in creating efficient development and testing environments.
Build and enhance tools for automating systems deployments.
Proactively monitor and spot infrastructure load trends and recommending the best path for scalability with a preventative mindset.
Keep Gengo infrastructure and services up and running with a five-nines philosophy.
Manage high-availability emergency response schedule with automated system alerts.
Monitor and optimize infrastructure costs.
Support every facet of our scalable infrastructure environments.
Required Qualifications:
Experience in Automated Infrastructure (i.e. AWS) via Chef
Experience releasing and maintaining large-scale software applications
Experience with real-time failover architecture, principles and processes.
Experience with systems monitoring, alerting and analytics.
Experience developing custom solutions for systems monitoring, deployments, continuous integration, etc.
Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
Understanding or interests to a concept of infrastructure as code and building infrastructure of it.
Understanding or interests to a concept of Micro services and building proper infrastructure and monitoring system for it.
Driven, focused, self-starter with a team-based attitude.
The ability to quickly debug a variety of problems during emergency situations.
Experience in managing RDBMS is an advantage.
