Position Summary
Senior position for a Materials Engineer/ Scientist with experience in the electronics industry that is able to work with minimal guidance. The role involves the introduction of new materials technologies to the division and the support of multiple design teams developing power conversion devices for a wide range of applications. Both practical and theoretical knowledge will be required and it is expected that engineers/ scientists from academia or high tech electronics companies would be suited to the position.
Responsibilities
Support the selection and specification of materials, platings and finishes for use in our products, including amongst others:
PCB materials
Potting materials
Sealants and adhesives
Magnetic materials (for transformers and inductors)
Plastic materials
Anti-corrosion treatments
Participate in design reviews to assess the appropriateness of materials from various perspectives, such as:
Corrosion effects
Chemical compatibility
Cost and availability
Regulatory compliance
Application specific requirements
Build our capability to perform reliability analyses of solder joints in the presence of thermal and mechanical stresses
Research, evaluate and introduce new materials into our products
Alternative materials for higher performance or lower cost
Novel materials for thermal management
Materials for alternative fabrication methods
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Materials Science
8 or more years work experience including exposure to at least some of the following areas applied to power conversion devices and/ or electronic systems:
Plating
Soldering
Reliability
Corrosion
Electrical interconnects
Failure Analysis
Potting and adhesives
Accelerated testing
Magnetic materials
PIM
RoHS/WEEE
Dielectric fluids
Plastics
Highly desirable skills
Self-starter/ self-driven
Good initiative
Creative thinker
Structured problem solver
Good communication skills
Technical writing (white papers)
Computer literate
Team player
