Job Summary
The Intercompany Accountant is part of the Global Center of Expertise (COE) within the Company's Global Finance Operations. This role is responsible for the end-to-end process of Intercompany Accounting such as reviewing and verifying intercompany charges, reviewing and resolving out-of-balance/intercompany reconciling items and Intercompany account settlement. Handles more complex entities and transactions. This position reports directly to the Finance & Accounting Consultant.
Since this is a remote position in a permanent work-from-home setup, the ideal candidate should be a self-starter, independent, have excellent business acumen, strong communication skills, and will be a natural numbers and reconciliations wizard with applicable expertise in Excel and other accounting-related tools with at least 1-3 years relevant experience.
The Intercompany Accountant is an analytical thinker who enjoys working cross-functionally in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key responsibilities
Transaction Processing:
Verifies and reviews details (both sending and receiving) of intercompany requests received and follows up for approval
Determines appropriate Intercompany accounting details (e.g. GL accounts, Cost Objects, Transaction Type, Tax Code, Entity Code, etc.), when required
Posts Intercompany journal entries on both sides for cross-company enabled entities and to one entity if not cross-company enabled
Works with appropriate contact persons of the onshore organization for Intercompany transactions not going through the tool (e.g. marketing charges, fees & commissions, royalties, loans, interest and dividend-related transactions)
Monitors pending Intercompany requests (either Sending or Receiving), follows up for approval and provides status updates to parties who will need to act in the situation of escalations.
Prepares accruals for recurring transactions (e.g. goods in transit and cash in transit)
Ensures timely expense recognition (on both sides) for year-end Intercompany related accruals
Reconciliation
Performs preliminary and final Intercompany reconciliations for all entities
Resolves intercompany reconciling items (exceeding the threshold) within month-end reporting timelines
Resolves intercompany reconciling items (below the threshold) within a two-month time frame.
Prepares formal balance sheet reconciliations on required timelines (i.e. monthly and quarterly)
Settlement
Coordinates with Treasury for any settlement requirements
Prepares payments and collections relating to Intercompany
Others
Handles more complex entities (e.g. determines locations not accepting cross-company charges and the underlying tax or legal justifications for these) and complex transactions (e.g. requires tax codes that will ensure compliance)
Provides data to Internal and External Auditors
Identifies process improvement opportunities and implements related OE projects
Interaction with:
Finance & Accounting Consultant
Intercompany Supervisor and Service Delivery Lead
Intercompany contacts for coordination, account reconciliation and follow-up of outstanding items
General Ledger support team and Treasury Department for exchange of information
Requirements
Proven experience as an Intercompany Accountant for at least 2-3 years
Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
Solid experience in Account Reconciliations
Understanding of basic financial analysis
Independent and self-starting mindset
Values quality over quantity
Drive for innovation and goal-oriented
Ability to meet deadlines
Experience with ERP software similar to SAP, Netsuite, or NAV
Working knowledge with tools for a remote working environment
