GRAPHIC DESIGN MANAGER
 
SUMMARY:
The Graphics Manager will direct the production and layout of artwork and plate making, facilitating communication and collaboration across departments to ensure projects/client specifications are met.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversees the day-to-day workflow and output of the department, prioritizing and assigning projects.
Provides guidance and leadership on projects; creates and implements additional training and development as needed.
Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Hires temporary or contract help as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Oversees and manages art preparation and platemaking layout, providing guidance as needed.
Establishes and implements a work order process through which design consultation can occur, specifications can be collected, and projects can be assigned and prioritized.
Calculates project cost estimates based on materials and resources required;
Maintains pricing list or system for recurring or standard projects.
Ensures finished projects align with customer and project requirements before the product leaves the department for printing, delivery, and/or distribution.
Schedules and leads regular departmental meetings to discuss projects and priorities for team members and to address questions or concerns regarding company policies and procedures.
Maintains departmental equipment and supplies; May research and negotiate with vendors to secure competitive prices on required materials and equipment.
Maintains a portfolio of exemplary work samples.
Attends design consultation meetings for unusual or large-scale projects.
Collaborates with internal sales and marketing departments, customers, and outside vendors and contractors to ensure all expectations are sufficiently met.
Assists team members with projects as needed.
Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent sense of design.
Thorough understanding of typography, drawing, and lettering techniques.
Ability to assess costs and quote prices for prospective clients.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software and graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
QUALIFICATION:
Very precise about details and maintains a high level of accuracy
Shows ability to make new things or think of ideas
Consistently good in quality or performance; able to be trusted
Someone who puts aside his personal goals and works well with others, doing what he needs to do to strive for a common goal.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in graphic design, art, or similar discipline
5+ years experience (academic and professional) with design software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.
Proven experience with graphic design, with a strong portfolio of work
Exceptional creativity and innovative design skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Organizational and time-management skills for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Leadership experience in managing a team of designers
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
3+ years in professional graphic design, preferably with a creative or marketing agency
Working knowledge of CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript
Knowledge of WordPress and content management systems a plus
Photography experience and proficiency with photo-editing software
Desire to continue to grow skill set with ongoing education and training
