FIELD ENGINEER
 
Responsible for the effective maintenance and operation of mining equipment. By coordinating maintenance schedules, troubleshooting issues, ensuring safety compliance, and training personnel, the Field Engineer ensures that mining operations run smoothly, efficiently, and safely. They are essential to minimizing downtime, maximizing productivity, and extending the lifespan of critical mining equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct regular field inspections of mining equipment, including crushers, haul trucks, conveyors, and other heavy machinery.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in mining equipment to identify root causes of malfunctions.
Ensure all equipment is functioning within the operational parameters and meets safety standards.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for machinery and equipment based on manufacturer specifications and operational needs.
Coordinate with maintenance teams and other departments to schedule planned shutdowns for maintenance work, minimizing operational downtime.
Supervise and oversee the execution of both preventive and corrective maintenance tasks in the field.
Collect and analyze operational data from machinery and equipment to assess performance and identify any potential issues before they lead to failure.
Utilize predictive maintenance tools and technologies, such as sensors and data analytics, to forecast when equipment needs maintenance or repair.
Provide on-site technical support and guidance to maintenance teams during breakdowns or emergencies.
Collaborate with the maintenance team to provide quick, effective solutions to prevent or minimize unplanned downtime.
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with local safety regulations and industry standards.
Conduct safety inspections on equipment and ensure that all safety devices and features are functional (e.g., emergency shutdowns, alarms, and safety interlocks).
Enforce the use of proper safety equipment (PPE) during maintenance operations.
Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and parts replacement.
Prepare reports on maintenance activities, equipment performance, and issues for management and other stakeholders.
Ensure that all maintenance activities and incidents are documented for future reference and compliance.
Train field technicians and other team members on equipment operation, maintenance best practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
Assist in developing training programs and materials for maintaining mining equipment.
Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs or parts procurement when necessary.
Ensure that any third-party services are performed according to contract specifications and safety standards.
Ensure availability of necessary spare parts and tools to carry out maintenance activities without delays.
Work with the procurement department to maintain an adequate inventory of critical spares to reduce downtime during repairs.
Suggest process improvements to enhance maintenance efficiency, reduce costs, and increase equipment reliability.
Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and post-mortem reviews of equipment failures to improve future maintenance practices.
