Role Purpose:
This role will work to proactively support regional business growth & the global thought leadership strategy for current exam products, and other products where relevant, at a country and regional level to promote Exams products, including but not limited to IELTS and Aptis, and services for the organisation and its key stakeholders within academic contexts.
Through overseeing engagement activities related to assessment literacy, the post-holder will work to strengthen the position & reputation of the British Council as a Language Assessment Authority by providing academic support and working in tandem with the wider Business Development team in winning sales and increasing the market for British Council products and services for English language exams candidates, teachers and partners.
This work is intended, together with local, regional and global teams, to position the British Council in East Asia as the partner of choice for assessment products and services in order to win commercial contracts business and generate benefit for the UK.
Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:
Reputation & authority/expertise
Develops and arranges delivery of engagement activities (such as workshops, presentations, training sessions) for both B2B and B2C, focused on building demand for British Council exam products such as IELTS and Aptis.
Liaises with Global teams to ensure that all client engagement and promotion of British Council exam products is on-brand and on-message
Channels Business Development team needs and higher-level engagement opportunities to Global teams and supports when necessary
Integration & end-to-end solutions
Leads and manages the design, delivery & improvement of various online & F2F assessment support products and services for assessment-related stakeholders around East Asia, including teachers and learners
Works with key business development colleagues in the region to support implementation of global Thought Leadership in assessment strategy in East Asia
Works together with regional colleagues to ensure the sharing of assessment resources/ expertise in the identification and response to business opportunities and sales demand for British Council exam products
Customers & stakeholders
Proactively builds and maintains excellent relationships with internal partners and stakeholders across East Asia to ensure effective, integrated and joined-up assessment solutions
Develops and supports trust-based relationships with a range of assessment stakeholders in East Asia
Develops academic training for internal stakeholders and arranges delivery as and when required.
Supports BD team with maintaining long-term strategic partnerships with regional and local language testing organisations and associations
People management & professional development
Source freelance practioners and establish a training cycle/system for them to deliver small-/medium-scale engagement activities (such as workshops, presentations, training sessions).
Lead and manage the group of freelance practitioners through providing continuous training and guidance, coaching and developing practitioners to increase skill sets, ensuring that all practitioners have the appropriate skills, knowledge, support and training to enable the business to achieve targets and win sales for British Council exam products, such as IELTS and Aptis, on a local and regional level.
Oversees scheduling of, payment to freelance practitioners and contract initiation between relevant SBUs.
Supports a coherent, structured and accessible capacity/capability training programme for internal staff to improve assessment literacy
Role specific knowledge and experience:
Essential
Thorough understanding of the principles and practice of language assessment
Experience teaching or conducting assessment-related activities, such as examining, in an East Asian context
Experience of undertaking teacher observations, mentoring and / or professional development of teachers
Experience of developing content or learning solutions inresponse to the needs of groups of learners
Presentation and/or workshop design/delivery experience
Desirable
Track record of delivering academic presentations
Project management experience
Management of dispersed teams within a matrix arrangement
Experience of developing pedagogic activities such as syllabus design & course planning
Experience of self-access digital products for learners of English
Experience of delivering non-teaching customer-facing initiatives and activities
Experience examining, rating, and/or developing items for medium to high-stakes English language examinations
Coaching and people management experience
Qualification
Essential
Bachelor's Degree in Applied Linguistics, Education or related field
Recognised language teaching certificate (CELTA, TrinityCert) or qualification
Desirable
Master's or higher-level Degree in Language Testing, Applied Linguistics or related field
