Job Description
To ensure that overall operations are under the control of one PSO, the designations of a shipboard power safety officer (SPSO) and power control station power safety officer (PCS PSO) are assigned, each having specific responsibilities:
SPSO is responsible for the safety of all personnel associated with cable powering activities during cable repair operations.
Ensures the integrity of the safety process oversees all safety aspects of the system during powering operations not involving a repair vessel
PSOs shall closely communicate with each other for all power safety duties during cable repair.
PSO must give permission to the personnel to carry out any work on the equipment in the respective cable station and maintain such a plant in a safe condition until cable repair work is completed.
PSO must originate and receive all Power Safety Messages (PSM).
PSO must be thoroughly familiar with the concerned cable system and have sufficient ability in the English language to communicate with distant cable stations and cableship during cable repair.
PSO must be formally and fully trained in the use of all equipment in the respective cable station and onboard cableship. It is strictly expected to maintain the skill and knowledge levels from a safety standpoint.
PSO must have responsibility that all participants involved in the cable repair are familiar with operation and/or maintenance of PFE and all power safety procedures.
PSO must implement all local safety precautions.
During cable repair, the PSO must let all the participants update the repair progress correctly
