About the job:
As a senior DevOps engineer you will be part of our new Site Reliability Engineering team. As a newly created team you will be responsible for the maintenance and development of ING's main alerting solution, called the ING alert transporter. The ING alert transporter is highly critical application for ING, as it is responsible for propagating all alerts/notifications to our clients within the organization. Who are our clients? Our clients are ING internal teams not only in the Netherlands, but spread over departments all around the world.
Your new job!
You will be responsible for all operational tasks related to the ING alert transporter application, while also developing new features to enhance the product. Our and your (if you decide to join us) main responsibility is to maintain the reliability/service level targets we promise our clients, while we continuously move the application forward.
You will work on a daily basis with the WB Tech SRE team that is currently developing and maintaining the application. You will work on the same features and operational activities as they are. They will provide you with all the support and help you might need.
You will develop consumable, automated end-to-end software solutions for your consumers together with your squad.
You are able to move stories and operation tasks from "To-Do" to "Done" on a weekly basis.
Our stack!
The application is developed in Java and is using the latest Spring boot framework. It is deployed on docker swarm in Rhel 7 servers in our ING private cloud, using Azure DevOps pipelines. We use zookeeper as our main data store and Cassandra as a backup where we keep historical data. For monitoring we are using, Prometheus-Grafana and Logstash-Elastic-Kibana.

We are looking for:
A passionate DevOps Engineer who is responsible for efficient development operations that can balance service reliability and delivery speed.
Main responsibilities will be:
Maintain and develop the ING global alerting solution
Ensure the reliability and availability of the application
Automate toil
Handle client requests and communications
Develop consumable, well-structured software solutions (resilient, high quality, highly automated and up-to-date)
Apply Continuous Integration / Delivery & modern software engineering practices
Have on call responsibilities in rotation with your colleagues in the Netherlands
Improve the MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) and MTBSF (Mean Time Between Service Failures) of incidents that impact the service
Prevent incidents from reoccurring
Qualifications:
Competencies - Skills
Mastery in Java and working knowledge of at least one other programming language, Golang is a plus
Working knowledge of configuration tools like Ansible, Puppet or Chef
Working knowledge in docker swarm and/or related docker orchestration solutions
Experience with Zookeeper and Cassandra is highly appreciated
Experience with maintaining and developing client facing, highly reliable applications
Scripting experience in at least one of the following: Python, Bash, Powershell
Proven experience with automation
Azure DevOps and Azure cloud experience is a plus
Experience with monitoring and alerting solutions like Prometheus-Grafana or ELK is a plus
Solid foundation in Linux administration and troubleshooting;
Your education and background
Professional and intellectual IT ability at university level - at least Bachelor's degree
Experience in Agile/Scrum
Excellent command of spoken and written English
