Purpose
Manage a team of passionate Debt Recovery Analysts and ensure all staff are appropriately trained, developed and aware of their accountabilities and responsibilities.
Responsible for managing debt recoveries and the escalation debt collection process (ad hoc contact with customer for special requests).
Manages special collections portfolio and debt collection strategy in conjunction with legal when necessary.
Responsible for following-up debt sent to collecting agencies and legal department and to escalate where appropriate.
Analysis of receivable portfolio and preparation of recommendation for bad debt provision.
Principle Accountabilities
Debt Recovery
Contact customers whose debts have been escalated to determine if settlement can be reached without involvement of legal or other external agencies.
Negotiate repayment arrangements and seek approval when external/internal legal action is required. Perform regular follow up of each file to assure collection action payment plans are being met and follow to conclusion ensuring proper escalation to legal or outside collection agency when necessary and properly document all collection actions taken or agree to and/or committed to by the customer.
Provisions
Prepare specific and general provisions and ddiscuss items to be provisioned with relevant people.
Get approval from the relevant authority prior to the booking. Verify that requested provisions have been booked. Communicate provisions to the business
Write-Offs
Identify potential write off and obtain approval from the relevant authority. Provide details of write off to relevant staff who are responsible for posting in ERP. Verify that requested provisions have been booked.
Legal Recovery
Liaise with legal departments and debt collection agencies on the status of recovery case. Regularly reassess customers to determine provisions for recovery.
Customer Service
Acknowledge receipt of complaint with customer. Investigate and resolve the complaint.
General
Keep up-to-date on issues by holding regular discussions with the Regional Credit Managers, Credit analysts, Credit Collectors and Sales Teams
Special Challenges
Have the ability to discuss with customers the issues concerning non-payment of debts and advising them of the action that will be taken in the event they do not submit funds.
For active customers, the relationship needs maintained wherever possible, and the ability to negotiate effectively is a key requirement, together with strong, but firm interpersonal skills.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Minimum 2 years in managing teams, experience in Debt Recovery is preferred .
Financial/ Accounting background.
Knowledge of bankruptcy and collection regulations.
This role requires a results driven, individual with good communication skills and strong drive.
Ability to work under tight time pressure whilst still maintaining high standards of work.
Solid commercial acumen to be able to support the sales organisation in debt recovery matters.
Have credibility and be able to negotiate with customers to reach a solution, whilst valuing the customer relationship wherever possible.
