Database Administrators are responsible for ensuring high reliability, performance, and security of the company's database systems. Database Administrators responsibilities include database access provisioning, database instance provisioning and patching, troubleshooting database errors, future capacity planning for database systems, ensuring RTOs and RPOs are met by implementing backup plans and database replication technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and implement strong database security solutions such as access control, encryption, auditing, and data masking.
Troubleshoot issues related to database systems; create documentation and playbooks related to any database troubleshooting.
Design, implement, document, and test redundancy and replication strategies to meet defined RTOs for all databases.
Design, implement, document, and test backup strategies to meet defined RPOs for all databases.
Provision new database instances, patch existing instances, and fully manage the lifecycle of database instances in the ecosystem.
Perform database tuning and optimization; ensure database configuration is tuned properly for the workload, make recommendations for indexes and query tuning opportunities.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize database systems.
Design and implement database archiving solutions to keep transactional databases lean while simultaneously supporting reporting and ad-hoc query requirements.
Design and implement database purging solutions adherent to the company's defined data retention policy.
Manage and support custom-built obfuscation bot to obfuscate data adherent to privacy regulation requests.
Work with application development teams to deploy changes and releases into the production environment adherent to the company's change control process.
Design and implement a robust, comprehensive database monitoring strategy to ensure near 100% availability of the company's database systems.
Execute and automate routine health checks of database systems.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in IT or related field or equivalent experience preferred
Ability to clearly communicate modern database concepts and best practices
Minimum 3 years' database administration experience required
Amenable to work on Shifting Schedule
Additional Qualifications:
Experience with SQL Server 2008 R2 through 2019 required
Experience with SQL Server Always-On Availability Groups preferred
Experience with third-party backup solutions such as Commvault preferred
Experience with third-party monitoring tools and solutions preferred (Foglight, Spotlight, Ozar spBlitz procedures)
Experience with DBPaaS in AWS preferred (RDS, Aurora Postgres, Aurora MySQL)
Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Integration Services preferred
Proven record of delivering business critical projects within challenging time frames, multiple stake holder groups, and competing priorities
Competencies:
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet project deadlines, complete tasks in a timely fashion, and follow-up as needed
