The position is responsible for development of sustainable supply of agri-based raw materials such as cassava, sweet potato and grain sorghum at low delivered cost through agricultural production planning, hectarage development, crop management, contract buying, and stakeholder's management that will contribute to the Company's direct material cost reduction.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION PLANNING
Generates production volume estimates that approximate committed targets based on planning systems.
Validates and analyzes total industry including estimates of open-market volume, price movements and market shares of different buyers of agri-based raw materials.
Identifies potential supply areas of the different agri-based raw materials.
Evaluates candidate areas suitable for crop production.
Contributes in the formulation of buying strategies (e.g. price and volume decisions), conceptualization and implementation of projects to support the supply development of the different agri-based raw materials.
HECTARAGE DEVELOPMENT
Campaigns and recruits new and qualified assemblers/consolidators through orientation of SMFI's assembler program.
Coordinates sourcing of planting materials and other farm inputs/services for contract growers.
Identifies potential area of expansion
Analyzes Farm Plan and Budget suited for the new area of expansion
Validates area planted thru field inspection / spot checking
Prepares documentation requirements of Assembler application for BPG accreditation
Conducts field inspection on crop suitability and assistance on soil fertility
CROP MANAGEMENT
Checks effective implementation of crop production technology protocol based on SMFI standards.
Provides technical assistance on efficient harvesting and post-harvest operations.
Checks compliance on quality specifications of raw materials and packaging based on SMFI's standards.
AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION SERVICES
Facilitates soil sampling in identified areas for crop production for laboratory analysis
Evaluates status of pests and disease infestation of standing crop
Provides remedial control measures to mitigate crop losses
Conducts regular entrepreneurial lectures (e.g. social entrepreneurship) to farmers during farmers' meetings.
Assists Agri-Technicians in conducting Farmers' Meetings/Orientation and Training
Recommends technical solutions on insect pests, diseases and weeds control measure
Assists in production and post-harvest operations of the Assemblers
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT / INNOVATION
Sets - up demo farms that will showcase latest crop production systems and post-harvest technologies
Gathers data on results of new high yielding varieties and new product formats introduced by technical experts / consultants
CONTRACT BUYING
Prepares Project Brief and consolidates documentary requirements for endorsement to accreditation of BPG and contract preparation.
Certifies actual area planting and submits required volume data and documents to Area Operations Head for Purchase Requisition (PR).
Monitors post-harvest operation for quality specs and volume forecasting
Coordinates with QC, Logistics, Manufacturing and Finance for faster acceptance and payment
Coordinates with Assemblers regarding deliveries and volume commitments
Prepares and evaluates expected volume in the area to supply feedmill requirements
Monitors price and volume purchases of competition
Communicates with Logistics for the warehousing capacity needed for the expected volume
Explores mechanized post-harvest facilities
Recommends Cost Analysis to assemblers on buying strategies from farmers
THIRD PARTY MANAGEMENT
Internal Stakeholders - Coordinates with inter-departmental groups (Logistics, OpPlan, Manufacturing, Quality Control, Finance and SSC) on operational concerns and systems improvement.
External Stakeholders - Coordinates with the following:
Local inter-government agencies (LGUs, DA, DENR, DAR, PAG-ASA, BPI, DTI, Cooperative Banks, commercial banks and other government financing institutions)
Business Partners / Assemblers
3rd Party Manpower Service Providers
Monitors the service level of third party service providers (Agricultural Technicians) in terms of providing technical assistance to contract growers/farmers;
Conducts spot checking of activities and expenses of 3rd party service providers (Agricultural Technicians)
Ensures the 3rd Party Service Provider execute timely and specific accomplishments on a daily basis
