ROVING NURSE:
Coordinates with the front desk on appointments scheduled for the day
Based on doctors' schedule, retrieves patient chart and classifies them (new or former patient, LASIK, Phaco or Gencon)
Assist doctors and follows instructions on the next step to take based on the findings of the doctor
Advices patients on procedures to be undertaken, including the rates, and inquires on patient's preference when to have it done
Assist patients to the examination rooms for consultation and treatment by the Ophthalmologist
Ushers patients to billing with the duly accomplished charge slip
Summarizes the number of patients checked by the optometrists and the doctors at the end of the day
For cataract surgery patients, provide referral slip for Cardia-Pulmonary clearance as needed. They will also have to undergo a retinal screening and cataract workup
During LASIK surgery day:
Guides the patient to operating room for image capture
Secures signed consent form from patient who will undergo LASIK surgery
Instructs the patient to read the fixation target chart
Coordinates with the Optometrist for manifest refraction and other necessary work-up
Updates the OR staff regarding patient's status
Instill dilating drops to patients for cyclopegic refraction and surgical wavefront
Assist the Ophthalmologist in making the eye in preparation for surgery
Escorts the patient to the cashier to settle payment dues
Ensures that the patient records are complete before proceeding to the operation room
Endorses nurses to the pre-operative room nurse
Escorts the patient from the operating room to waiting companion
Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor
During Cataract day:
Ensures patient records are complete and correct
Escorts the patient to the cashier to settle payment dues
Ensures the pre-operative drops are instilled
Checks pupil dilation
Updates the pre-operative nurse regarding patient status
Escorts patient to the operating room
Instills dilating on patient for retina screening, cycloplegic refraction, laser therapy like Pan Retinal Photocoagulation (PRP), Focal Laser Therapy (FLT) and VagCapsulotomy (Yag Cap), and other procedures such as Automated Visual Field (AVF) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Instill topical anesthesia on patients for laser therapy
Assists the Ophthalmologist during consultation, laser therapy and ultrasound
Coordinates with the Optometrist regarding patients for cycloplegic refraction
Coordinates with front officers staff regarding patient surgery schedule
Escorts the patient to the cashier to settle payment dues
Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor
OPERATING ROOM NURSE:
SCRUB NURSE
Prepares all supplies for surgeries and fills out daily inventory sheet
Ensures that operating room is ready before setting up tables and opening packs for surgery
Ensures sterility of surgical field from start to end of procedure including preparation instruments and supplies
Sets up and Primes machines to be used for the procedure
Serves gown and gloves to surgeon/s
Prepares surgical site by applying sterile drapes
Assists surgeon in instrumentation and use of machines
Prepares intraocular lenses for implantation when applicable
Does needle count before end of surgery
Signs out after each surgery
Practices proper instrument care after each procedure, including cleaning, inspecting and sterilizing of instruments
CIRCULATING NURSE
Receives patient from pre operative nurse
Does complete time out including patient's full name, procedure, surgical site, surgeon's name and IOL choice when applicable
Prepares lenses to be used
Opens sterile packs for scrub nurse
Positions patient on surgical bed with patient monitors and oxygen cannula
Assists anesthesiologist before and after induction of general anesthesia
Records events of surgery
Endorses patient to post operative nurse
Maintains sterility of surgical field
PRE OPERATIVE DUTIES
Receives patient for surgery from Roving Nurse with complete endorsement
Ensures that informed consent was obtained and medical history is complete
Assists patient to wash face and wear gown shoe cover and head cap
Marks correct surgical site
Takes vital signs
Checks pupil dilation or constriction when applicable
Instillspost operative drops
Assists surgeon in examining patient at slit lamp prior to surgery
Endorses patient to operating room
POST OPERATIVE DUTIES
Receives patient from operating room with complete endorsement
Gives post operativeinstructions(including eyedrops, eye shields, reminders and follow up schedule) to patient and companion.
Coordinates surgery patients' follow up schedule with front desk, endorses charts to front desk or IT for scanning
Logs surgery cases in Phil Health log book
