Description
Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU) and their Innovation Center for Agroecology, Climate Change, and Angripreneurship has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Bioenergy Systems Engineering Specialist. PSAU has identified the importance of the implementation of alternative resources to be used as a means for generating energy, such as biomass (organic, plant-based material) that is readily at hand in the Philippines. Recently the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) funded the establishment of a Bioenergy Laboratory at PSAU. The lab is equipped for the conversion of biomass into energy. However, the area of energy systems at PSAU is in its establishment stage and there is a need for professionals and technical assistance.
The PCRV will work with the university and laboratory staff to develop and plan a strategic 10-year sustainable plan on energy systems engineering. The PCRV will explore and evaluate the potential of local biomass feedstock as transportation fuels as well as other bioenergy resources. The PCRV will also co-design prototype energy systems and draft collaborative research proposals, as well as mentor faculty and students in the conduct of research on bioenergy systems. The long term plan of the university is to emerge as a leader in the field of energy systems engineering.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change because of the uncertainties as Peace Corps and local partners resume volunteer operations. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in the Philippines together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
