Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Manager - IRRI Education, the Associate Manager - Instructional Design and Content Development is expected to lead instructional design and content development support for all courses (online and offline) to IRRI Education. This will include working with the domain experts to create course overviews, developing course materials following educational principals and developing and delivering online and offline learning materials. The different e-learning products where the incumbent need to contribute are short term e-learning courses, micro-learnings, massive open online courses, open educational resources or any technology driven / non-technology educational, capacity development and knowledge management interventions around Food, Land and Water System in CGIAR. This position leads a small team of full-time staff and a pool of fixed term / part-time / casual instructional material developers.
IRRI Education offers courses in Science, Technology Transfer and Leadership around Food, Land and Water Systems, and the successful candidate must be willing to work in these three areas.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.
The health and welfare of our staff is our top priority. We are currently operating with the majority of our workforce working from home. This position will be remote for the foreseeable future and will require a stable internet connection.
Roles and Responsibilities
Analyze course needs and help develop learning objectives and an overall course design
Design and develop training/learning activities with compelling course content using a variety of modalities (e.g., instructor led classroom and webinar, small group activities, self-paced e-learning, self-paced programs, blended learning programs, etc.) depending on the needs of the client(s), research units, or other stakeholders
Develop and deliver instructional materials - from content, user interface, up to the finished product; Create design outlines and story boards
Oversee the evaluation and effectiveness of training; design and develop evaluation methods and tools; analyze evaluation data and communicate results to the IRRI Education team to improve the course designing and delivery
Identify areas for improvement within IRRI Education (e.g., process and technology), make recommendations, and implement solutions
Partner with Business, Marketing team and Course Designer to identify target audience's training needs and develop overview of course
Work with subject matter experts (e.g. scientists, researchers, management, specialists, etc.) to develop module descriptions and course materials
Work closely with Course Managers and Facilitators to ensure smooth delivery of courses
Interact with trainees to check effectiveness of learning materials
Develop course descriptions including learning objectives and list of modules
Create course materials (e.g. student guides, facilitator guides, reference materials, etc.) and supporting media (e.g. audio, video, simulations, role play, games, etc.)
Oversee IRRI Education's Learning Management System (LMS)
Recommend a pool of fixed term / part-time / casual instructional material developers for engagement on a project by project basis
Recommend IE offerings from being short-course focused to include distance-learning opportunities such as e-learning courses, micro-learnings, massive open online courses, open educational resources or any technology driven / non-technology educational, capacity development and knowledge management interventions around Food, Land and Water System in CGIAR
Research and recommend new learning approaches / products / services as per market requirements and client needs
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related subject with a minimum of five years of instructional design and development experience
Exposure to various Learning Management Systems (LMS), Work experience in e-learning and open educational resources
Skills Required
Mandatory
Demonstrates a working knowledge of instructional design skills (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation) and the ability to apply it to work assignments
Demonstrates a working knowledge of e-learning development software and the ability to apply it to work assignments
Has excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred
Has experience working in scientific/academic environment
Has experience working in agriculture sector
