SUMMARY:
Responsible for the initial investigation of potential unusual activity involving Northern Trust accounts/clients that have alerted in Northern Trust's global automated transaction monitoring system. This role is specific to anti-money laundering (AML) investigations at the alert level (level one) as part of Northern Trust's Global AML Compliance function. Uses specific knowledge of Financial Intelligence to achieve goals through own work. Has specific knowledge or expertise typically gained through formal education or equivalent experience. Uses expertise to provide guidance to others as a project manager or consultant. Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within Financial Intelligence. Performs routine assignments using existing procedures. Receives instruction, guidance and direction from more senior level roles.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Completes initial (level one) alert investigations in connection with AML matters involving Northern Trust accounts/clients that alerted in the global automated transaction monitoring system
Supports each alert investigation with appropriate analysis, and documents investigation activities and conclusions
Escalates alerts requiring further investigation to appropriate global partners
May interact with internal partners (e.g., relationship managers) in the course of investigations, as appropriate
Recognizes the highly sensitive nature of investigation activities and maintains confidentiality
Facilitates discussions and reach decisions independently; consults with management as necessary
May perform additional responsibilities, participate with special projects, etc., as requested by management
Uses existing procedures to solve standard problems; analyzes information and standard practices to make judgments
Has limited impact on own work team
Works within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Requires strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
Requires functional / industry knowledge.
Technical skills and knowledge of transaction monitoring systems (e.g., Actimize) is preferred.
Applies strong time management and organizational skills to work a large queue of alerts
Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices and procedures within a job discipline.
Applies general knowledge of business developed through education or past experience.
Exchanges straightforward information, asks questions and checks for understanding.
CAMS certification desired but not required.
EXPERIENCE:
Must possess at least a Bachelor's/College Degree , Economics, Finance/Accountancy/Banking, Business Studies/Administration/Management or equivalent
At least 2 years of related experience (e.g. FIU, Transaction Monitoring, Fraud)
WORK SCHEDULE:
5:00AM - 2:00PM / Mondays to Fridays
