Description
Two State Universities in the Philippines, Bohol Island State University (BISU) and Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU), have requested the support of Agro-Ecotourism Program Development Specialists to support developing, enhancing and promoting BISU and PSAU's agro-ecotourism plans. BISU will implement a farm village tourism project and related technology transfer activities with support from the Philippine Department of Science and Technology. BISU sees the development of environmental-friendly economic projects as a means of empowering local communities, promoting technologies, diversifying their sources of income, and reducing pressures to harvest and sell natural resources in an unsustainable manner. At PSAU, the goal is to develop an integrated agro-ecotourism destination combining forest park, organic farming, culinary spots and recreational activities like mountain trekking, horse riding, and zip-lining. PSAU sees the development of eco-tourism activities as a means of reducing the impact of climate change, protecting and conserving valuable biodiversity, and providing economic benefits.
The Agro-Ecotourism Program Development Specialists will support each state university in developing a five-year comprehensive agro-ecotourism development plan. The Peace Corps Response Volunteers (PCRVs) will provide trainings and workshops with the university and campus staff, agro-ecotourism service providers and other community stakeholders. They will also develop and implement monitoring mechanisms and an evaluation framework for agro-ecotourism. The main goal of each assignment is to advise and consult with staff and other stakeholders in the planning process and to assist with the development of agro-ecotourism operational and marketing strategies for each agro-ecotourism park.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change because of the uncertainties as Peace Corps and local partners resume volunteer operations. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in the Philippines together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
