Responsibilities
Support the Group's reserving processes, including:
interacting with business unit actuarial teams in the development of actuarial estimates and booked reserves;
interaction with external auditors and independent actuaries in their assessment of the Group's loss reserves;
evaluation of quarterly emergence of loss experience against expectations to ensure the accuracy and consistency of reserve levels and forecasts
development of economic basis technical provisions for the Group's economic balance sheet as filed with the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
filing of the Group's external financial reports, including the Annual Report and SEC filings (e.g., 10-K, 10-Q); Quarterly Earnings Releases and Financial Supplements
Support development of group global reporting actuarial database;
Provide support to group-wide profitability measurement initiatives, including return on capital calculations and rate adequacy measurement;
Support group-wide actuarial research and analysis, data processing and modeling techniques.
Support the Group's risk management efforts, particularly as regards Bermuda regulatory filings such as the GSSA, BSCR and ORSA reports, exposure aggregation monitoring and management and preparation for regulatory management reviews;
Support the Group-wide natural and man-made catastrophe aggregation process, including analysis of drivers of changes in risk profile;
Support the Group's capital management, which includes assessing the adequacy of ACGL's capital and liquidity and filing regulatory and rating agency capital models and related surveys;
Required Skills/Experience
Incumbent should have a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science or related quantitative field such as mathematics or finance and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in the insurance/reinsurance industry. Candidates in the Casualty Actuarial Society ("CAS") or Institute of Actuaries with 2-5 actuarial exams and ambition to attain fellowship will be considered, along with those with relevant experience not on an exam track. Incumbent should possess knowledge of a Property and Casualty insurance and/or reinsurance company ("P&C") and/or Mortgage Insurance.
Understanding of actuarial principles, techniques, systems and trends, with a strong preference for reserving and/or financial reporting experience;
Strong mathematical skills and the ability to clearly present technical data to varied audiences;
Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel and working with various financial/actuarial data sources;
Ability to work both independently and as part of a decentralized team;
Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages such as VBA, SQL;
Experience in data management, risk management, capital adequacy and/or catastrophe modeling is desirable;
Knowledge of international accounting regulations, in particular US GAAP;
Experience in and knowledge of Mortgage Insurance would be an asset;
Ability to organize and prioritize demanding workload according to volume and urgency;
Excellent planning and organization, analytical/problem solving, decision-making and financial analysis skills; and
Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science or related quantitative field such as mathematics or finance and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in the insurance/reinsurance industry.
