Job Description:
Ensures efficient and effective closing of subsystems such as AR, Sales, Deferred Revenue, Stock Obsolescence, Work in Progress and Royalties.
Analyze and records accrual and deferment of Revenue and COS, also provision for Bad Debts and Credit Reserves
Prepares and maintains reports that would be useful in analyzing the accounts being handled.
Prepares reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, consolidates a full Balance Sheet deck and present them to the Business Unit.
Loads Hyperion balances to REQIS/REMIS and perform validations of variances and gaps
Provides financial support in forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing variations from budget
Assist in the preparation of various audit requirements.
Ensures that interfaces from subsystems to Peoplesoft are in balance and are posted to Peoplesoft. Work with IT to resolve problems
Have a full understanding of the systems used and participate in implementation of new applications, modules, systems upgrades and user acceptance testing.
Liaise with Business Units, Business Controllers, Business partners, Operations. First point of contact
Ownership of the daily queries relating to transactional overhead activity and analysis of previously prepared month-end results.
Take a proactive approach in resolving issues encountered.
Maintain strong internal controls by having a full understanding of the Revenue, COS & Inventory processes, and ensure that accounting policies and procedures are adhered to.
Responsibilities:
Monthly Tasks:
Accurate posting of month-end accruals into the general ledger (PeopleSoft), including REPH staff costs, tax professional fees, and GA professional fees etc
Review and reclassification of any entries from Global AP postings
Inputting relevant financial data into management reporting systems such as Databank and Elsevier Oracle BIEE for ROW entities
Maintenance and reconciliation of leased vehicle accounting entries
Preparation of journals of treasury accounting memorandums
Rolling of monthly corporate reports
Ad-hoc investigations and analysis
Post Month-End:
Reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including overall accruals file maintenance
Analysis of professional fees (Tax, Government Affairs, Legal, Corporate Responsibility, Group Compensation)
Analysis of IT spend for various functions
Ad-hoc investigations and analysis
Quarterly Tasks:
Inputting smaller UK entities into Oracle Hyperion consolidation system (REQIS) and ensuring alignment between REMIS and REQIS
Preparation of quarterly accrual template for budget holders to return
Posting of quarterly VAT journal and recharge
Preparation of Benevity quarterly recharges
Annual Responsibilities:
Inputting budget and RF for ROW entities into REMIS
Year-end review of current accruals and community data for CR report
Assist in preparing RELX Group plc statutory accounts (REPLC01), including consolidation entries
Preparing analysis required by external auditor requests
Preparing analysis required by Group Tax for year end, statutory accounts, and tax return submissions.
Preparation of allocations to recharged to the divisions (HR and COGS)
Ad Hoc:
Data testing for FCCS (new REQIS) system
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
Part qualified/ studying towards ACCA/ACA/CIMA
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial systems (PeopleSoft, Oracle Hyperion)
Excellent communication and interpersonal people skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
