Job Description People Leader: Yes Shift: Mid Shift Reporting to the Head of Investment Operations and Finance (MBPS), the role will be responsible for leading and managing the MBPS Expense Shared Service teams ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely and value-added expense analysis for all Global and Direct functions across all business segments of Manulife. The Manager will oversee the financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting and support the continuous evolution and delivery of expense advisory function. The incumbent will possess the ability to work with people at all levels of the organization. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities Deliver monthly expense reports to business unit functional leaders according to the service model by partnering with the ESSC reporting team. Ensure quality of data and oversee the development of reporting which meets the needs of our customers. Provide value-added analysis along with clear and concise commentary on results for our customers. Demonstrate a strong technical understanding of the accounting for expenses including company policies and sufficient business knowledge to be able to verify and analyze information under review. Ownership of the 1st level detailed review of all functional forecasting/annual expense planning and budgeting processes. Review and approve journal entries (accruals, adjustments, reclass, reversals) Support the design, development and implementation of initiatives/projects, understanding the requirements of the business/function within the overall group strategy Act as an advisor to other shared service teams and functional areas, helping to craft best-practices and provide financial reporting insight Use appropriate judgment in dealing with unexpected issues and requests, demonstrating an ability to prioritize work, and balance resource requirements to achieve solutions. Identify expense risk and opportunities and recommend and influence actions of functional business partners. Leadership and Team Development: Build stakeholder relationships and establish a high level of credibility for the Expense Shared Service Centre across all business segments particularly functional leaders and their respective teams and leveraged these expanded partnerships in delivering business results. Provide strong, proactive leadership and coaching to a high performing team of accounting professionals. Cultivate an innovative environment by supporting creativity and high-performance teamwork. Model and encourage collaborative team behaviors (Manulife Values) Drive continuous improvement in employee engagement throughout the organization. Demonstrate strategic vision, positioning the team for growth and development, succession planning, talent management and retention Resolves issues with stakeholders at all levels with less or no supervision Knowledge/Skills/Competencies/Education: Accounting designation (CPA/CMA) with 8+ years of relevant experience in progressive accounting roles University degree in accounting Strong Excel skills and knowledge of database applications, Lawson, Essbase, Smart View, and enterprise planning tools Forward-thinking mindset that can anticipate the requirements of different stakeholders Ability to apply guiding principles to unique situations Critical thinking mindset coupled with a strong desire for continuous improvement Proactive approach to collaboration and a positive can-do attitude Exceptional relationship management, collaboration and facilitation skills Self-starter with proven ability to demonstrate independent judgment, problem-solving and analytical skills Broad thinking and ambitious individual with proven ability to excel in a fast pace environment while managing multiple, constantly changing priorities and ad-hoc requests Excellent customer focus and commitment to quality.
