POSITION OVERVIEW
Cardno is hiring a Tax Accountant to assist the Cardno Group with meeting its global tax compliance obligations as the Group grows and expands into foreign countries.
Job Description:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the Cardno US and Australian business as they expand into foreign countries (currently Canada, PNG, New Zealand and various European nations), including determining what is being done, how and by whom in order to understand potential tax obligations - with assistance from the Cardno Group Tax Director and Tax Manager.
Liaise with local tax experts in those foreign countries to determine direct and indirect tax compliance obligations.
Act as an intermediary between the business and external consultants in ensuring information is obtained in a timely manner to meet our tax compliance obligations in those jurisdictions.
Prepare and/or review (if prepared by external advisors) direct and indirect tax returns in those jurisdictions.
Assist with the preparation and lodgment of Papua New Guinea (PNG) monthly tax obligations (indirect tax and withholding taxes).
Assist with the preparation and lodgment of New Zealand indirect tax obligations (bi-monthly).
Respond to tax related notices received in these foreign countries.
Assist with support and documentation for audits and tax revenue agency requests.
Continually review tax processes to identify improvements.
Continue to develop a system/approach to ensure accuracy and completeness of audit ready tax work papers for all tax positions.
Assist in researching and resolving technical tax issues, if required.
Ensure all deadlines are met in a timely manner.
Maintain orderly documentation on the shared network to simplify information sharing with other users.
Potential to assist the Cardno US and Australian based tax teams with the preparation of the US and Australian income tax provision and federal/state income tax returns.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or any related course.
CPA or MS/MBA preferred.
At least 4 years of International tax experience.
General knowledge of tax related issues that can arise when expanding into foreign countries.
Working knowledge of direct and indirect tax compliance in Canada, PNG, New Zealand and/or one or more European nations preferred (but not essential).
Organize and summarize information in a clear, concise manner specifically tailored for the intended reader/listener.
Expert knowledge of Excel, including use of Pivot Tables.
Proficient in online tax research tools.
Excellent communication skills.
Collect, prepare and analyze data and information to reconstruct, detect, support or refute a position.
Organize and coordinate work by internal and external resources.
Focus on meeting key goals/milestones/KPIs; meet deadlines.
Embrace opportunities to increase knowledge and learn new skills.
Anticipate and address issues before they increase in intensity.
Take ownership of all assigned projects/tasks.
Simultaneously manage multiple projects. Adapt to and re-prioritize based on changing conditions.
