Overview
The Systems Engineer III designs and implements solutions, and acts as a subject matter expert in their areas of expertise. The incumbent operates independently on assignments involving the analysis of both business and regulatory requirements, as well as the analysis of the individual technical implementations to maximize benefit to the business. The Systems Engineer establishes and cultivates successful relationships with our business units, technical implementation teams, management and vendors.
Responsibilities
Defines application and system configuration standards, works with commercial tools or writes custom scripts to validate and enforce them.
Performs technical analysis and recommends IT systems purchases and upgrades as needed.
Identifies and recommends usage policies and operational guidelines.
Provides project coordination and writes documentation for technology implementations, as well as production system turn-over to the Data Center Operations teams.
Tracks issues and business requests, and conducts research on broad-based solutions and new features that meet user needs.
Provides second or third level technical support of core, business and applications. Often requires management/coordination of outside vendors and internal subject matter experts.
Investigates & diagnoses problems in assigned trouble tickets, as well as identifies and implements solutions. Communicates resolution back to team members and business users.
Writes or modifies existing scripts/programs to automate builds, application deployments, patching and maintenance, configuration updates, access provisioning, and other system administration functions.
Builds systems per specifications to meet availability and performance targets as outlined in service level agreements with business owners.
Reviews system performance data and makes suggestions to improve overall performance, as well as forecasts future system needs based on trends.
Qualifications
Good understanding of web technologies (JBoss, IIS, Apache, Sharepoint), application virtualization technologies (Xenapp, ThinApp, App-V), database support (SQL Server, Oracle), systems and application monitoring (Solarwinds Orion, Splunk, New Relic), system security and hardening technologies (PKI, AV, Tripwire,) Internet email filtering and encryption, and authentication/authorization services (Active Directory, ODSEE, IBM ISAM).
Good understanding of TCP/IP networking and load balancing technologies (Netscaler, BigIP).
Dev Ops Tools - Jenkins, Maven, Ancilble Tower, Open Shift (Kubernetes)
Employee may be asked to perform other duties as required.
The employee is expected to be flexible with his/her time in order to provide backup coverage and provide additional support if needed. 24 hour on-call rotation may be required, as well as after hours and weekend work. Please also note that the primary schedule may adjust by 1 hour to accommodate Daylight Savings Time adjustment with the US schedule.
Required Skills/Experience
Broad knowledge of Citrix Windows related back-office products. Citrix is the key component.
Proficiency in PowerShell with Active Directory. Bash is nice to have but not required.
Strong understanding on Windows Server, Active Directory Administration, Group Policies on how they work with Active Directory.
Has experience in VDI, Virtual Desktop Environment, Published Desktop, Xenapp, or any virtualization technologies in a cloud-based specifically azure.
Synchronization to Azure on-prem and cloud-based Active Directory
Excellent analytical skills, trouble-shooting and problem solving ability.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills to effectively work with fellow staff and internal customers.
Attention to detail.
Customer service orientation and sense of urgency to maintain expected service levels.
Education
Required knowledge & skills would typically be acquired through a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field plus 7+ years of related experience.
