New technologies and business models are critical for the energy transition but currently lack investment and other forms of support. Third Derivative (D3) is a joint venture between Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and New Energy Nexus that reimagines how early-stage cleantech is brought to market. D3 is a vertically integrated ecosystem with 8+ integrated VC funds with $2 million in deployable capital, 15 global corporate partners with $3 trillion in market cap (including Microsoft, AT&T, Wells Fargo, Shell, BP, FedEx, and others), and deep sectoral expertise and network (from RMI and Nexus) geared at supporting our growing cohort of startups. Our collaborative community helps solve for the multiple valleys of death that climate tech startups face in serving the mission of creating a world that works for 100% of humanity in the shortest time possible.
Position Overview
New Energy Nexus & D3 is seeking a well-rounded Startup Success Manager (SSM) to launch D3's accelerator program supporting climate and energy startups in Southeast Asia, facilitating collaboration between portfolio startups, VCs, commercial partners, and RMI and Nexus experts.
The SSM will own a portfolio of startups. For each startup, the SSM will facilitate monthly meetings, execute on follow-ups, track progress, and work with the D3 team to continuously improve programming. The SSM will serve as a coach, connector, and strategic thinker on behalf of startups. In addition, the SSM will also be responsible for market research and ecosystem building.
The position will be based in Southeast Asia. Working remotely from the region is a possibility.
Roles & Responsibilities
Program Implementation Support
Design and implement business acceleration programs in supporting climate and energy ventures in Southeast Asia
Program can entail facilitating speakers, mentors and trainers for online and offline workshops, mentor matching, identifying relevant commercial and investor partners
Manage marketing & outreach activities: invitations, press releases, newsletters, video, photo, webpage and other administrative items
Manage database of key contacts, liaise with our network of energy professionals, mentors, partners and startups for their active engagement in the program
Research & identify relevant service providers for activities, including trainers, facilitators, business advisors, mentors etc.
Partnership Engagement & Business Development
Research potential corporate partners & program sponsors in country to understand their goals & objectives (corporate partners, foundations, government agencies)
Craft customized proposals and work with regional team to engage organizations for program collaboration
Build and maintain quality relationships with key partners
Develop a network of energy professionals, mentors, program participants and partners; manage the contact database
Participate in industry events and initiate meetings with key market stakeholders
Stay up-to-date on any relevant clean energy events and news
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Passion for climate, clean energy startups and innovation
Minimum of 5 years' experience, in the climate, energy or startup support sectors
Strategic outlook and deep understanding of the energy transition in Southeast Asia
Existing network of contacts at key regional companies and related government entities
Key account management and project management experience
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Leadership skills - Experience with leading a project or a team, with little support needed
Ability to travel within the region and other project locations
Professional fluency in English. Other Southeast Asian languages are a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the startup community, including accelerators, investors and entrepreneurship service providers
Management consulting, technology commercialization experience
Master's degree in climate, energy or business-related fields preferred. Bachelor's degree holders with relevant experience may apply.
Highly resourceful person with the ability to come up with new ideas and concepts to support our mission in Southeast Asia
