They are responsible for leading and engaging in information/data management projects, information models and flows, data dictionaries, data standards, and data quality standards and processes. The Applications Systems Architect is responsible for developing and documenting requirements for database, applications and operation system environments.The Applications Systems Architect is tasked with being the primary focal point within the enterprise for the design, development and implementation of application-based services.Problems and ChallengesThe Applications Systems Architect faces the challenge of mapping out and implementing system architectures utilizing rapidly changing technologies. Conform to the enterprise architecture and meet the enterprise's service level commitments and productivity metrics.Essential Position FunctionsPrincipal Accountabilities
Provides the technical leadership for developing and maintaining the enterprise information architecture.
Defines, develops, maintains, and communicates information exchange standards used by systems that interface with the enterprise architecture.
Communicates with project teams and other stakeholders to keep them apprised of Applications Systems Architecture status and relevant issues of interest to clients and their business areas.
Participates in enterprise-level information technology roadmap planning and IT governance activities in general.
Designs, develops and maintains the enterprise methodologies and techniques, including standards and guidelines for enterprise wide use in technical studies and systems development processes.
Develop and enforce the change control process for the Applications Systems Architecture artifacts.
Coordinates with development teams and DBAs to ensure creation of physical database and an optimal implementation of the data models/database design.
Participates in the analysis, evaluation and development of enterprise long-range strategic plans and operating plans to insure that the enterprise architecture objectives are consistent with long term business objectives.
Identifies implementation risks; analyzes potential impact to enterprise and scheduled objectives; develops, submits and maintains enterprise critical path schedules; and initiates action to correct any deviations from this schedule.
Performs all responsibilities within the guidelines of enterprise policies and directives at or above the enterprise's performance and evaluation standards.
Authority
Prioritize work to accommodate IT and customer needs while minimizing impact on current projects.
Develop and implement methodologies and techniques that improve efficiency and enhance productivity relating to technical studies and the systems development process.
Provide technical leadership in the enterprise architecture strategies, processes and methodologies.
Identify potential problems before they occur and implement solutions.
ContactsWithin the IT organization, substantial contact is required with applications development and Infrastructure support personnel to insure conformance to the enterprise plans and attainment of business goals and objectives. Within the enterprise, periodic contact is required with end-user systems support personnel. Outside the enterprise, regular contact is required with technology suppliers during evaluation of state-of-the-art software and services.Requirements:
Master's degree in computer science or related field; or equivalent experience recommended
5 to 10 years' experience in applications or systems programming in an enterprise architecture environment.
Knowledge of current techniques and hardware capabilities of a large scale database and data communications environment
Ability to execute plans and meet project objectives
Ability to understand and clearly relate to other members of the organization, technical manuals, software specifications, hardware principals of operations, and general methods of systems software operations
Experience in the development and implementation of IT architecture plans, Applications Systems Architecture standards and guidelines, software development methodologies and strategic plans.
Experience with data sharing standards and architecting scalable service oriented solutions
