Join us and start doing your life's best work.(sm) The Engineering Manager serves as the Agile program leader and will be responsible for leading the Agile transformation and for the successful execution of an Agile team. The Engineering Manager to support a scrum team and the over-all delivery and reporting within their Programs. This position requires individuals who have previously experience as Scrum Masters and/or Agile Coaches on highly distributed teams in the past, and have experience in software delivery as well as those who can drive and influence change and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Primary Responsibilities: Accountable for the delivery and reporting of several Scrum Teams within a Program Establishing program level cadence and driving program level ceremonies (e.g. PSI Planning, release train retrospectives, backlog refinement) Attend Daily Scrum meetings and PMC meetings Ensure team's roadmap is current. Drive delivery timelines. Track add, changes, and deletes with features Articulate issues per audience Lead up the chain of command (Directors, Program Manager, Business partners etc) Conduct or assist in the interview process for the team and other teams Manage team capacities and time offs Meeting with architects and product owners to help facilitate sprint backlog items Working ahead of the team with the architects for initial review of the features Work ahead of the team with Product Owner on User Stories grooming Work with other program leaders to drive the definition and refinement of the program backlog Provide leadership, direction, and coaching to the Scrum Master at the team level Ensure cross-value stream coordination and collaboration Serve as an escalation for impediment removal for the Scrum Master Maintain metrics that provide visibility to stakeholders on program-level progress and quality Act as a liaison to assigned program manager and project managers. Take responsibility for managing dependencies between the program team and third parties, release managers, or between the team and other scrum teams Work through incidents within and other organization across teams Develop, coach, and mentor team members to advance their skills and career by conducting weekly or bi-weekly 1:1's with team members and tracking (CLL, gathering of 360 feedback every two quarters and working to ensure direct reports participate and completed feedback surveys) Verify team members complete mandatory LearnSource trainings Work with direct reports to identify trainings (i.e. Optum Tech University, Percipio and trailhead courses Conduct quarterly and annual individual performance reviews Manage CAP (Corrective Action Plan) Provide real time feedback to the methodology team based on experiences with software delivery teams Work cross functionally to align strategy, methodology and execution Be a change agent and foster a 'learn by doing' environment Ensuring standards and best practices are being followed for development and deployments such as but not limited to: GIT branching strategy Follow standard software design patterns Database design (Explain Plan & index creations) Contrast for checking and ensuring no vulnerabilities and Sonar for ensuring code quality Communicating deployment information to appropriate stakeholders Following and tracking code freeze date Code reviews are completed before deployment Ensuring team follows the enterprise technology Ensuring performance test is executed and participate in the test and verify and define test metrics and validate the results Deployment duties (define and track deployment dates, prepare readiness documents and perform deployments) Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience 8-10+ years of IT experience including development 3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master, Product Owner or Agile Coach 3+ years of leading/managing people 3+ years of experience working on large scale, multiple Scrum team projects 2+ years of experience working on mixed methodology program (Scrum interfacing with Waterfall from a dependency perspective) Experience with Rally Understanding of basic fundamentals of iterative development Understand basic fundamentals of software development processes and procedures Understanding of backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition Understanding of incremental delivery and the value of metrics Excellent English communication skills in written and spoken form Solid interpersonal skills, passion around facilitation, empowerment, and servant leadership Familiarity with common Agile practices, service-oriented environments, and better development practices Fundamental understanding of Java, Springboot and other Frontend Technologies Familiarity with CI/CD and Cloud Related Technologies
