About the team
In the Templates Design Team, our mission is to make amazing and beautiful social media storytelling accessible to everyone, through cutting edge design.
With millions of people using Canva everyday, this is an opportunity to redefine visual communication and have a global impact on the way people create content for social media platforms.
Set the design trends that people follow to communicate ideas. You'll be responsible for researching, ideating and articulating what makes a beautiful storytelling template for social media platforms, and bringing them to life.
About the role
You will help to direct the creation of the world's best collection of social media templates by working with a talented team of photographers, videographers, illustrators, product managers, designers, copywriters and content specialists in Sydney and Manila. Your content and templates will be used by millions of people around the world.
You'll use your knowledge of the latest social trends to keep Canva ahead of the curve, working with the latest design styles to appeal to influencers and businesses. You'll create and refine design briefs, and guide other designers to create beautiful work; plus take initiative to propose and implement strategies to improve workflow and process.
We'd love it if you have...
At least 5+ years experience in graphic design, with a high level of design craft
Deep understanding of social media. You'll be across every platform and trend, with profound insight on what makes social content successful
The ability to create original designs outside of brand guidelines, bringing the latest design trends to life for our users
Experience leading other designers and creatives, and communicating design feedback to encourage designers to improve their work in accordance with design fundamentals
An understanding of various video and social media publishing platforms, so that your content can be designed to better engage & reach audiences
The ability to use animation, video and motion in your designs to catch a viewer's eye on social media platforms.
What you'll do...
Work with your Creative Lead to direct design on key template projects across the Social Templates Team at Canva
Research and direct design for our templates campaigns, working across a broad range of verticals and topics to ensure every Canva user has what they need for social media success.
Brief a design team to create beautiful and usable video and static social media templates.
Brief and manage the asset creation process with our internal and external sources of imagery, music tracks, video footage, stickers, and animations, -- so that we have the best assets to work with.
Own curation and quality assurance for social media templates.
Research competitors, trends, patterns and best-practises, visual/interaction design inspiration, user and business insights.
Ensure our designers create with usability requirements in mind.
Produce and integrate effective & efficient design practices.
Support the team's scalability through documentation and process improvement.
While we won't be taking any blood samples, we'd love to see some Startup DNA - you will need to be flexible, pragmatic, strategic, tenacious, and take ownership of deliverables and outcomes - ya gotta have hustle!
