JOB DESCRIPTION FOR AN SMSF ACCOUNTANT

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated SMSF (Self-Managed Superannuation Fund) Accountant to join our financial services team. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of SMSF regulations, compliance requirements, and taxation practices. As an SMSF Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in managing and providing accounting services for self-managed superannuation funds, ensuring accuracy, adherence to regulations, and delivering exceptional client service.
The successful candidate will help build the client's best practice process to streamline his workflow and systematize the business.
As an SMSF Accountant:
• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (CPA, CA) is preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in SMSF accounting or a related role.
• Thorough knowledge of SMSF regulations, superannuation laws, and taxation practices.
• Proficiency in accounting software (Xero, MYOB, etc.) and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Client-focused approach with excellent client relationship management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Your Responsibilities as an SMSF Accountant:
• Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns, and compliance documentation for self-managed superannuation funds.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping, adherence to ATO regulations, and compliance with SMSF legislation.
• Complete and lodge annual SMSF income tax returns, ensuring accurate reporting of income, expenses, and capital gains.
• Provide expert advice on tax planning strategies to optimize SMSF tax positions.
• Collaborate with auditors to facilitate the annual audit of SMSFs and address any audit queries or issues that arise.
• Prepare and provide required documentation for audit purposes.
• Liaise with clients to gather necessary financial information and documentation for SMSF accounting and compliance.
• Provide clear and concise explanations of SMSF regulations, tax implications, and compliance requirements.
• Offer expert advice to clients on SMSF structuring, contribution strategies, pension arrangements, and estate planning.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and changes in SMSF regulations to provide informed recommendations.
• Continuous Improvement:
• Identify opportunities to enhance operational processes, streamline workflows, and improve service delivery efficiency.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with SMSF industry developments.
