Position Overview
The Engineer will be responsible for day-to-day administration and oversight of physical and virtual instances of Windows and Linux operating system server environments. The Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of server compliance and security, availability and performance management including hardware, firmware, OS and applications as described.
The Engineer will stay current on the technology platform and be able to communicate and add value to discussions related to the security, availability and performance of the server environment. The Engineer will be comfortable in openly communicating in both structured, and ad-hoc (unstructured) forums.
The engineer will perform break/fix remediation of all observed or reported Incidents with an objective of restoring service.
The engineer with participate in identifying and eliminating incident triggers, restoring service, and/or continually working to reduce incident duration.
The Engineer will also contribute to Problem and Change Management processing of their environments. The engineer will follow established processes and procedures, as well as contribute to new processes, KBs and process improvement activities.
The Engineer will openly team with management and peer technologists, such as network, security, and enterprise level architects.
The Server Engineer will utilize Insight's Support Services tools sets to deliver this service effectively. Other functions of the role would include, but are not limited to mentoring first level technicians, leading internal and external projects, develop service deliverable initiatives, and process improvement opportunities. This role is highly collaborative with all engineers and technicians in Support Services and interaction with Insight clients of this service. Expectation to work with data center, data protection, virtualization, networking, security, and storage technologies as well.
Responsibilities and Duties at Insight:
The Server Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance and general operations, troubleshooting of client server infrastructure.
Performs primarily break/fix troubleshooting, some server/software updates and feature enhancements to Windows, Linux and UNIX servers, VMware, Active Directory, General IT infrastructure.
Problem Management to monitor trends and problems to spot patterns and recommend new standards or process changes.
Creates and maintains technical and process documentation. Propose Knowledge changes and update existing process documents.
Collaborate with Internal resources, customer, third party vendor to solve complicated issues.
Provides coaching, mentoring, and technical expertise to Services technicians.
Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer engineering and other computer related studies, ECE or IT related field, from two or four-year College or University.
Ability to thrive in an environment characterized by rapidly changing requirements and an ongoing focus on meeting operational objectives and SLAs.
Strong written and verbal English communications skills.
Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.
Proven ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
