We want to make tax painless (our crazy big goal!). Our mission is to modernise a traditional tax cost centre into "Tax-as-a-Service" to protect and serve the business and its stakeholders. We want to do this within a fun and engaging environment that promotes collaboration, forward thinking and continuous improvement, all whilst making tax as painless as possible.
About the candidate
As Canva continues on this exciting period of growth and traverses the ever increasing complexity of the international tax landscape, there is now a need to grow the tax function to include a Senior Accountant with significant expertise in Philippines Taxes. We are looking for a Tax Magician with broad experience across all areas of Philippines Taxes, including audit experience, process improvement and deep technical expertise. to join our Tax Family. You'll have strong attention to detail, an aptitude for project management and a passion for all things technology and automation.
We're a fast moving business so change is frequent, so you'll be comfortable working in a hands-on, dynamic environment and have excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude.
You are a team player, enjoy collaborating and rallying the team towards achieving its goals and always willing to lend a hand to your colleagues for the collective good. You will work closely with the Global Tax Team, other members of the finance team, the broader business and our service providers. Your values and interpersonal approach will be a metric of success for this role.
What you'll do...
Reporting to the APAC Tax Manager with a "dotted line' to the Tax Technology and Operations Manager and Philippines Finance Manager, the core responsibilities of the role include:
Work closely with the Tax Operations Team to drive and deliver all tax compliance affairs for the Canva Group in the Philippines, including income tax, EWT, payroll tax and VAT;
Dive into complex tax technical issues for the Canva Group in the Philippines and find solutions for critical business needs including drafting technical advice and provide support to key stakeholders as required (Finance Team, Directors, Head of Tax);
Manage tax audits and disputes for the Philippines and provide support for other tax audits for the rest of the world;
Being the ambassador of process improvement of the Philippines, including:
Collaborating with other business units to design and implement best-in-class processes, procedures and deliverables
Identify and drive process improvement and automation across the Philippines Tax function
Assist in developing and implementing process improvements strategies, together with other business units
Proactively monitor changes across the Philippines tax landscape to ensure that appropriate planning, compliance and reporting actions are undertaken;
Collaborate with other stakeholders to attend to all other month-end / quarter-end / year-end tax reporting obligations as required; and
Support the Tax Technology Manager with the review and selection of tax technology for the Canva Group in the Philippines.
We'd love it if you had...
5-6 years of relevant experience in both the chartered and commercial/in-house space;
Strong writing skills and business acumen with problem-solving creativity and commercial judgement;
Degree level qualification; CA/CPA qualified or equivalent qualification;
Highly organised with the ability to work under pressure and within set deadlines;
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
Self motivated with a desire to learn
Experience working in a fast growing, ever-changing environment, ideally in a private company.
A keen eye for detail, a strong desire to keep learning and you enjoy upholding high standards of excellence and integrity in the services you deliver.
Operating in a fast paced environment you are able to adapt quickly, manage workloads and meet deadlines with support and oversight.
You have excellent communication skills and approach tasks with a problem solving attitude, with a constant lens of continuous improvement.
