As a specialist member of the global Centre of Expertise, the role will primarily be responsible for providing financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and reporting of sales and related revenue profile for one of the Business Units as well as the day to day management of the sales environment of the Elsevier planning, budgeting and forecasting tool (Hyperion Planning). This role will support Finance Manager (or Business Controller) within CoE Sales & Revenue, and is responsible for the reporting, budgeting and forecasting, developing key sales and revenue dashboards as well as effective forecasting tools for sales and revenue, sales to revenue conversion model and other key sales and revenue models. This position will review current practices and develop tools to improve and standardise reporting, analysis and insights in the business drivers for the Business Unit they will be supporting.
This position will also assist in projects and queries and help other members of CoE and BDS with their day-to-day operational responsibilities (e.g. due to absence, and/or other Elsevier wide project(s) putting demand on the finance resource pool in the CoE Sales & Revenue). In this role you will be required to have well developed analytical and modelling skills, be a self-starter with a can do mentality and quick learner in a complex and demanding environment and have a keen eye for detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
Functional and Technical Competencies:
• Financial skills: financial technical accounting standards and revenue accounting techniques
• Business skills: robust knowledge of finance life cycle and processes
• Communication skills: strong verbal and written communication skills, take intiative and clear messaging
• System knowledge: Excel (advanced level), PowerPoint, OBIEE, Hyperion Planning, HFM, Oracle
• Languages: strong English skills (spoken and written)
Education Knowledge Skills and Experiences:
• Degree in finance, accounting or a related field; Qualified Accountant, MBA or advanced business degree desirable.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years relevant experience in a senior analyst role required and solid experience working in a global organization in finance supporting a commercial organisation.
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of financial and management accounting, process and systems.
• Affinity with large and complex international working environment.
• Commercial and organizational awareness, ideally in a comparable industry.
• Must be an advanced level Excel user, including the build of financial modelling tools. Experience with manipulating large amounts of data and PowerPoint, Hyperion Planning knowledge are required as well as the ability to quickly learn new systems/tools.
