Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for a Senior Bookkeeper to join our accounts team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3+ years of experience in end-to-end bookkeeping for Australian businesses under an Australian Accounting or Bookkeeping firm. You must be Xero Certified, possess AU Payroll experience, and have a Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy. Experience and confidence in being able to handle the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close for small to medium sized Australian businesses will be highly regarded. Additionally, the ability to mentor and train junior bookkeepers is essential.
What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like?
Reviewing and process financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations.
Reconciling bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts.
Reconciling ATO balance sheet items (i.e. GST, PAYGW, income tax)
Preparing and processing payroll, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Preparing Supplier Batch payments
Reconciling receivables and payables against customer and supplier remittances
Generating and analyzing financial reports, such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Identifying and investigating discrepancies or irregularities in financial records, resolving any issues promptly.
Collaborating with the tax+compliance team to ensure accurate and timely completion of month-end and year-end closing procedures.
Assisting in the preparation of financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships, and sole traders, where needed.
Preparing and lodging activity statements, including BAS/IAS, and ensuring compliance with GST and payroll tax requirements.
Providing guidance and support to junior bookkeeping staff, including training and mentoring, with assistance from the Accounts Team Manager and Client Managers.
Reviewing and overseeing work prepared by junior bookkeepers to detect discrepancies and ensure deadlines are met
Staying up to date with changes in accounting regulations and best practices, implementing necessary adjustments in processes and procedures.
Collaborating with other departments, such as tax and compliance teams, to ensure cohesive and accurate financial reporting.
Continuously improving bookkeeping processes, implementing automation and efficiency measures where possible.
Participating in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in bookkeeping and accounting practices.
Working alongside the client services team, tax team and client managers to support clients with queries as needed
Processing superannuation obligations and do relevant reconciliations
Processing and lodging other state based statutory compliance such as CoInvest, etc
Setting up and maintaining software integrations between Xero, Dext, Square, Deputy, Lightspeed, etc where necessary.
What You Will Need to Succeed?
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Australian Bookkeeping
Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy
Excellent understanding of Xero
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High attention to detail
