Your Role
You will be an Oracle APPS DBA, supporting the Corporate database infrastructure and applications, including all corporate databases, including Oracle E-business Suite, in dev, test, production, and DR environments. Some additional support is provided to oracle databases owned by our engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Supports the Ciena Oracle database environment consisting of both Oracle E Business Suite (EBS) and non-EBS databases, located in three North American sites to support activities that occur mostly during the candidate's working hours. Weekend and off-duty hours naturally come with this position.
General Activities
Core DBA tasks:
Monitors alerts and corrects problems per trained procedures, including but not limited to space related problems.
Moves code from dev to test using Kintana or other means per procedures
Applies database and weblogic patches as needed
Identifies blocking locks and other performance related issues - remediates per accepted procedures
Takes on-call rotation for one week (involves work outside of normal hours)
Refreshes databases as needed
General core DBA duties as assigned
Oracle EBS DBA tasks:
Applies EBS and related application patches
Creates and responds to Oracle SRs as needed
Assists with End of Month duties (requires weekend work).
Refreshes Oracle EBS databases as needed
Upgrades EBS Application and database components
Collaboration with stakeholders
Works as a member of the DBA team in conjunction with other DBAs, Application System Administrators and Linux System Administrators.
Works with various infrastructure departments, including networking and security to resolve related issues.
Areas of impact
Our EBS application is tightly bound with several other applications, all running on Oracle databases. These applications serve core business functions from processing customer sales orders to delivering products to customers, from sending purchase orders to vendors to paying the invoices, and all of the requisite accounting functions. Proper execution of these applications is vital to the company's ability to meet its revenue goals and accurately report its financials.
We also support some engineering databases that allow our engineering teams to manage their projects.
Experience
Works with application developers and other service owner and service delivery professionals as needed to maintain and implement solutions.
EBS specific expertise:
Proficient knowledge of Oracle EBS database administration through 12.2.4 required, including concurrent processing, system administration, start up and shut down, RAC, OEM in the EBS space, support of printing including XML, managing of schema statistics, identification of poorly performing queries, performance tuning, multi-node and RAC refreshes. Experience upgrading to levels beyond 12.2.4 a plus.
Basic knowledge of Oracle EBS system administration to monitor concurrent requests and collect information on job logs
Security patching of all components of EBS (database and applications tech stacks)
Most of our databases and applications reside in the Oracle Cloud - knowledge of cloud operations in general and OCI specifically is a large plus.
Understanding of security certificates, jar signing, and basic network concepts required
Understanding of Exadata a plus
Additional requirements:
Experience in GoldenGate and Veridata
Comfort with linux and windows - able to login to various environments, start/stop/monitor services in these environments - determine status or issues in these environments
Basic unix shell scripting
Excellent communication skills - must be able to work with North American DBAs and Oracle EBS sysadmins, effectively communicate issues and results, and report on issues with clarity.
Off-schedule hours - must have ability to work from home if requested.Will take up to one week per month as on-call DBA.Will assist with some End of Month (weekend) activities and will monitor and process refreshes.
