Responsibilities
The China Research Editor role will be focused on editorial and coordination, and a little bit of product management for China, where English is a second language. The role covers, but is not limited to, the following tasks: process incoming document submissions (English and Chinese versions alike) from China, electronic content posting, and document distribution and archival; do thorough editing, which includes formatting, proofreading, data checking, translation, and language editing, ensuring that the documents conform to IDC's standard, required style, and research architecture; assist in the quality check and training of IDC's machine translation projects; communicate with the Chinese research community on all PS&T processes and requirements, and provide training to analysts on editing requirements, the IDC Template, IDC's research architecture, and other publishing-related topics that may be required; prepare regular metrics and status reports, update the editing schedule daily, maintain regular research governance reports and other reports/databases; manage the China PS&T workflow and create/maintain China PS&T databases; review and implement an efficient quality check of contractors' output/deliverable; coordinate with the Asia/Pacific Product Management/Marketing representative to ensure that the product management processes are fulfilled by the China research community; coordinate with Chinese analysts, the PS&T team, US leads (such as the IDC DecisionScape program managers), and independent contractors and translation vendors based in China (and other Asia/Pacific countries) on editorial- and publication-related matters; coordinate with Marketing and Sales from time to time on publishing-related matters such as status of documents, etc.
Qualifications
Above-average time management, stress management and organizational skills
Above-average skills in copy and language editing, data checking, and formatting
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Average to above average English proficiency
Strong Chinese (Simplified) language and editing competence; Chinese to English and vice versa translation experience is a plus
Has demonstrable strong sense of urgency
Can multitask and is well-organized
Process oriented and has good workflow management
Intermediate-level knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT) and applications
A strong team player, but can work under minimum supervision and comfortable with working independently
Has demonstrable and sustainable high level of energy and enthusiasm
Has high level of comprehension and follows intructions accurately
Above-average aptitude to do research
Has good coordinating and negotiating skills, and is highly proactive
Numerically literate, patient, meticulous, and disciplined; solid analytics and detail-driven
Copes well under pressure, particularly with deadlines and multiple competing demands
Able to handle pressure situations and has a positive mindset toward achieving objectives of research projects
Gives attention to details, both qualitative and quantitative, and has a strong self-motivated, independent work ethics
Has knowledge of, or interested in, information technology and basic business dynamics
