MAIN JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for the development of packaging materials of new frozen products and the cost& quality improvement of existing products by delivering the following technical services :
Development of new packaging materials & designs by establishing commercially & economically feasible specifications that meet the company's quality, health & safety standards and sourced sustainably.
Generate efficiencies via process simplification and reduction in packaging waste.
Supplier management and development including troubleshooting and technology transfer.
Responsible in the leadership in the technology development of rigid plastics and flexibles
JOB SUMMARY
Main tasks and decision-making requirements of the role:
Lead packaging expert on plastic rigids/wraps responsible for developing, identifying and sharing new packaging technologies to the local business
Identify improvements and changes in packaging that will increase its quality, value and/or efficiency
Ensure the effective introduction of a portfolio of new packaging to local business with minimal supervision.
Develops the package from concept to commercialization. Material & design are conceptualized via inspirations from trade visits, best practices, packaging expositions and packaging trends. Leads prototype development with the package converters and monitors trial runs until 5 commercial runs. Responsible for the turnover of standards & specifications to manufacturing ensuring their financial, technical and commercial feasibilities.
Effective management of stakeholders ensuring timeliness and right messaging
Training of new and existing R&D personnel in packaging from prototype development to scale-up
Plans and budgets factory trial costs, managing risk effectively and keeping costs to a minimum
Is constantly searching for opportunities to reduce packaging cost and complexity, ensuring the team delivers on the agreed program
Role may involve supervising more junior team members or a very high level or expertise required
Key point of contact for packaging matters, and for most site/ supply chain matters where manager not based at site
Reviews and approves all mandatory elements as well as technical dimensions of artworks developed in system
Prepares the final artwork of all products for registration with the Philippine FDA, ensuring timeliness of submission to meet launch timetables and TVC Ad break.
Contributes as a team member of the Project Management Team, by working closely and proactively in building relationships with the Marketing Project Leader, the Process Engineer & Product Development Executive, the Supply Management Buyer, the QA Manager & Finance Business Partner.
Benchmarks regionally and globally on packaging to ensure healthy margins, and competitiveness in both quality and costs. Exchanges best practices
Liaises with the Regional community in the region and Supply Management to identify approved suppliers and obtain material samples for testing and evaluation.
Maintains high standards of hygiene and housekeeping (GMP & 5S) in the R & D Office & Laboratory, in conjunction with R & D Technicians.
Ensures compliance to safety standards in all aspects of the job, including safety clearance requirements, dHACCP analysis & Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
Maintains accurate, up-to-date and secure records for all packaging materials and other technical documents. Follows safekeeping and confidentiality guidelines for proprietary packaging materials and processes, trade secrets, and all other R & D technical Information & data.
Effectively presents packaging projects to senior management
KEY REQUIREMENTS
B.S in Engineering Degree, Food Technology or Related Discipline
Relevant packaging R&D experience in the food industry preferred
Good oral and written communication skills
