About IRRI
The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. Job Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Specialist of Media Relations and Social Influence, responsible for managing all social media channels including the development of engaging, creative, and innovative content that would raise awareness and increase audience growth. The Officer is expected to conduct regular research on media coverage and policy developments, and monitor IRRI's media presence, and coordinate with other Communication Subgroups for messaging and visual consistency to overall communication strategy.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.
Roles and Responsibilities
Develop engaging, creative, and innovative content for IRRI's various social media channels ensuring impact stories, key messages, events, etc. are shared to general public to raise awareness and enhance audience growth
Ensure appropriate content, policy consistency and style by staying updated on relevant economic, governmental, industry, and policy issues that should be reflected or referenced in communications
Safeguard IRRI's public image on various social media channels by conducting regular quality checks on IRRI-related posts, ensuring consistency to set communication strategy
Partner and provide technical advice to leverage social media platforms for events, conference, talks, projects, ensuring proper online messaging and consistency across multiple networks
Initiate collaboration and maintain relationship with senior managers and communication colleagues, including Project Communications Team, to incorporate IRRI's strategic messaging into their speeches and other communications materials
Influence virtual audiences through regular activities in social media channels to promote overall IRRI brand
Update project pages and factsheets, draft web stories and photo essays for digital use; research strong visuals and select images that will have high traction on social media
Monitor social media campaigns and provide impact analysis on social media reach by using tracking systems to gather visitor data and recommend areas for social media campaign improvement
Provide strategic advice on media opportunities by conducting regular research on media coverage and policy developments, and monitoring of media presence
Monitor and respond to user comments on all posts, in line with the Communication Team's strategic goals
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Science Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or related field with minimum 3 years relevant experience
Skills Required
Mandatory
Has experience writing for different audiences and in different styles
Has experience in using visitor tracking systems (analytics)
Is able to meet deadlines and knows how to set priorities
