Job Summary:
The primary purpose of the software developer position is play a key role in the design, installation, testing and maintenance of IT ERP software systems. The programs created are designed to help our customers businesses be more efficient and provide a better service.
Key responsibilities include:
-Understanding and scoping customer requirements
-Designing and coding tailored customer solutions within the Odoo ERP system
-Testing and deploying software directly to client servers
-Scoping, developing, testing and implementing modifications and applications as required
-Training customers in the effective use of the ERP system
-Providing technical advice / support to the internal support team
Understanding and Scoping Customer Requirements:
-Research and analyse customer requirements with regard to implementation of the Odoo ERP system and prepare a Software Requirements Document.
-Evaluate which modules will be required to fit the customer's needs (e.g. Sales, Accounting, Warehousing etc.)
-• Analyse existing business practices and work-flows in customer legacy systems and identify shortcomings and problems that need to be avoided in the new implementation.
Designing and Coding Customer Solutions:
-Design and code a prototype that represents the look and feel of the system that will be visible to the customer and also show how the code will fit in with the already existing base framework of the ERP system.
-Code new modules to add the requested features and changes to mould the base ERP into a customised solution for the customer. Modules contain Models, Views and Controllers that are coded with the help of Python, JavaScript, XML, and CSS.
-Recheck code to ensure code is efficient and fits well with the existing ERP framework, using company defined design and coding practices.
-If client requests cannot be achieved within the given ERP framework, research and use other third-party applications or technologies and integrate with the ERP to achieve specific requirements.
Testing and Deploying Software Directly to Client Servers:
-Test code on a local sandbox by installing various modules and checking that all modules work together in perfect harmony.
-Run use cases and user stories on a sandbox to test, ensure functionality and make the system as fail proof as possible. Fix bugs, glitches, security flaws and re-test to ensure the system yields the correct results.
-Commit, push and pull code to repositories and deploy the finalised code on customer servers.
Training:
-Demonstrate to and train customers in the use of the ERP system or to show as to how the system will work.
-Write and maintain company or client related technical and operational documentation. This could include client software upgrade requirements and procedures to perform, technical documentation related to maintaining company or third-party software on client servers.
Developing Modifications and Applications:
-Maintain the ongoing ERP support provided to customers by fixing bugs, glitches, security flaws and real-world unidentified problems.
-Update code from time to time to accommodate changes in the end user environment or technology.
-Provide customer with an estimate of the time and scope of a change, upgrade, and feature any add ons.
-Design, code, test and demonstrate the new changes to the customer. Inform customer of other third-party applications or add-ons that might achieve the objective.
-Manage local and client databases. Write and execute complex SQL queries to achieve complex tasks or to produce data for analysis that cannot be done through the front end of the ERP system.
-Work with third party reporting tools such as Pentaho.
Reporting:
Code and produce various reports according to customer requirements. Integrate reports with the ERP system for easy access and re-production.
Work with ERP specific report writing technologies like Qweb to code less complex report templates such as Sales Orders, Invoices, Profit and Loss. Use HTML, CSS for structure and design respectively.
