JOB SUMMARY: The Network Engineer II assists the Senior Network Engineer for the setup, maintenance, and improvement of business and back office network infrastructure and connections.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the projects initiated by the Network Team efficiently
Evaluates network activities with caution and enough prudence
Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)
Configure and install routers and other network devices
Monitor network performance and integrity
Resolve issues tiers of support have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure
Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
Mentor team members on technical issues
Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery)
Communicate with users when needed
Maintain complete technical documentation
Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability
Designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks
Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, DNS and DHCP
Procuring network equipment and managing subcontractors involved with network installation
Configuring firewalls, routing and switching to maximise network efficiency and security
Maximizing network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting
Arranging scheduled upgrades
Investigating faults in the network
Updating network equipment to the latest firmware releases
Reporting network status to key stakeholders
JOB SPECIFICATION SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:
Communication Skills
Designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks.
Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, DNS and DHCP
QUALIFICATION:
Industry-related experience as a Senior Network Engineer or Network Administrator
At least 2 to 3 years of related work experience
Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP) (Preferred)
Solid background in network administration and architecture
In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)
Familiarity with access control models and network security
Basic knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g Linux, Unix)
Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds network tools)
Solid understanding of network operating systems (JUNOS, Cisco IOS)
Sharp troubleshooting skills
Ability to work independently
Organizational and mentoring skills
BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
